What the %$#@!!

So it took about a month (due to the lack of time), but I finally finished the install of my 99 spec twins. I refilled all the fluids installed a new battery, turn on the lights to pull out of the garage and.............. big let down. It won't turn over. it cranks and cranks and cranks, but nothing.

Could one of these two concers of mine be the problem?

1. now before the install I was having idle problems. the RPM where all over the place. from 1200+ to stalling. I was told that it was one of the check valves, or leaky vac. hose. So i figured I would fix it after the install.

2. when I was installing the battery, my rench slipped and touched both the connected red and black battery wires. It made a quick spark , so i know there was power to the car. I have never done it before, so i really don't know if it not good or really bad. the car still has power to it. all power equipment works.

if neither of these could be it. the please lead me in a good direction.

I would start by inspecting fuses.

Last time my car was down for a month, it was flooded when I tried to start it up. Pull a leading plug and look/smell for gas.

Check your 120 amp main fuse in the fuse box by the battery. Its clearly marked. Follow Dave's advice.

Look on the bright side, at least you primed the turbo with all that cranking. If it had fired right away you may as well have kissed your new '99s goodbye

its obvious you disconnected the battery when working on the twins, but by touching both terminals with the wrench you could have caused a short, i'd also start with the fuses and relays

one in the black box next to the battery, and the other one is next to your clutch pedal inside the car. they should have labels on the lid.

93FD3s is probably correct. I'll bet it is the 120 amp main fuse. I only know this because I did the same thing last month. You likely won't be able to tell if it is blown, so pull it and look at it. Before you do what I did and yank on it to get it out, there are bolts on either side of the main fuse box near the battery that hold the fuse in place.

BTW, the fuse part number is #J001-67-099. It should be around $7.00.

are you people serious.....the main fuse!!!!!!! he would have no power. he already said everything works and cranks over 'IE has power' check to make sure you have spark first at the plugs then start looking into flooding issue's.

I understand your incredulous response. I can assure you, that it can give exactly that kind of response. See this thread https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/help-shorted-my-fd-now-no-start-721341/
for a list of the symptoms that I had.

After spending a couple hours tracing the wiring diagrams and analyzing my symptoms I figured it had to be the main fuse despite the fact that it looked good without pulling it. I ripped it out only find that it was blown. Strange I agree, but that is the way they are wired.

When I blew my main fuse...the car would not even crank. I would turn the key and get absolutely nothing.

Its the MAIN fuse for suuuureeee this exact thing happened to me. I remember it being pretty cheap for a new one at the stealership. Also your car is probably flooded if you kept cranking it.

Dhays: I just read your thread that you posted. I couldn't stop laughing because I did the same thing tonight before I got online. just say, even if my 120 was good it not any more since I removed it. I am having the same light problem, so I'm going to order that part tomorrow.

thanks

Yeah, sorry I didn't warn you earlier. A dealer should have that fuse handy.

I installed the 120 fuse, but just my luck........nothing.

I have looked at all the fuses and they seem good.(check the ones inside the car and next to the battery.) I assume that a blown fuse would have the metal broken, is this right?

If its flooded how do I unflood it?

need more help before I give up and take it to a shop. witch will be another challage since i have a lack of trust for my current shop.
