Replacing fuel lines and related stuff is regular maintainence for these cars. ****, even on FC's it's normal to replace lines and FPD's.

I can tell you one thing. That is absolutely not what happened. Both the turbine and compressor seals would have had to go at the same time. Then, you'd need a significant heat source in the IM, to the tune of 400 deg F + and a source of ignition. Finally, you'd need a way for the flaming oil to pass through solid aluminum.

I've also had a turbo throwing oil down the exhaust. It smokes a hell of alot, but it doesn't catch on fire.

Like others have said, I'd bank on a crusty FI hose or FPD. The exhaust problem is probably not directly related.
