weird power? need help?

Sometimes when I start up the car and drive, Ill notice that when Im at a light and push the gas in first it lacks power like its dead(slow), but then it will come right back on all at once, it will do that if im crusin in third then hit it(or drop gear?), the car sometimes does that not all the time? What could that be? Do I need a new motor? Thanks,
Brad

Do you have a boost gauge? If not, this is a good excuse (as if you need an excuse) to get one.

It could be a few things, but first start with the obvious; is the car warmed up when this is happening?

my car did this same type of thing today. Stomp the gas at about 2500 rpms and it doesnt want to go then it just changes it's mind. Its not turbo lag in my case atleast. I was thinking maybe the pfc acceleration enrichment, maybe? Don't have an WB o2 yet so it probably isn't tuned perfect, but could it be too much fuel for that instant causing this?
Oh yeah my car was warmed up, with a full tank of gas.

Man guys, you're totally shooting in the dark on some of these things.

Accel enrichment: NO.
Lag: NO.
Rich mixture: Maybe.
Hesitation of some kind: YES.

To totally bog, e.g. hesitate, while *stomping on the gas* would indicate a possible source of problems here:

1. Throttle Position Sensor.

2. Ignition related issue:
a. Spark plugs.
b. Spark plug wires.
c. Coils.

3. Slipping clutch.

4. Bad A/F mixture - although this is less likely than the above.

That was my guess clayne.

Honestly, it could be one or more of several problems. Could be a the turbo control solenoid (or other solenoid) failing causing boost response to sometimes not happen which would make seem like it "lacks power".

This is one of those questions in math that you label "not enough information".

I believe what the original poster is describing is basically a hestiation or stumble. The car is not going anywhere when on the gas.

Even if the turbos were off of the car you would feel some acceleration on full throttle.

ignition, hummmmm
my friend put an msd 6A in my car because he had an extra, as well as extra time on his hands. I think it is a piece of crap and a waste of money, didn't do anything for my car that I could tell (wish my jacobs hadn't misteriously disapeared at kd rotary). maybe I should rip that out and give it back to him. Fortunately I didn't pay for it. Then I'll pull my plugs and we'll see....

I've had a similar boost problem and it was exactly has he describe (step on the gas, nothing really happening and then all of a sudden I got boost).

Like I said, it's how you interpret his original post. IMO, it doesn't sound like a hesitation or stumble. The little hesition I've experienced doesn't make the car seem like it lacks power, only that the power delivery was "interrupted".

clayne,
thats what i'm talkin about.
Ignition maybe, I'll rip off that stupid MSD 6A that does nothing IMO (miss my jacobs that mysteriously vanished after a rebuild at KD), and give that piece of crap back to my friend, then check my plugs and see what they look like since I have off tommorow.

mine did that sometimes, it turned out to be the wastegate control selenoid...one of the hoses had popped off...put it back on and bam...it was fixed.
