this is weird (im having major problems!!!)
i changed my battery today cuz my fd was stalling on me, the eletrical would cut off killing the engine. well i switch the battery with 3 new ones and the same thing happens, only thing is that now anytime i use any accessory, the engine cuts off, the hazards will even make the car shut off. i check the eletrical by putting a amp meter between the battery and the pos lead and did that with my brothers fd and they both showed the same amount of drain when the car is in on mode and while off. this is getting very weird and im kinda getting worried cuz this is only the second week i have had the car. the car does run nicely so i know its not the fuel system/engine/turbos/cooling system/or battery so what else could it be??? help!!! i checking every fuse i could find as well as all the accessories but nothing seems to be shorted out. this is going from bad to worst (just yesterday it would run but now its getting really f*cked up!!!) perhaps ill go with a V-8 conversion if i cant figure out what is going on. oh well please respond if you have any clue what is going on here. so to recap, nothing seems to be shorting, all accessories work (including all lights, although if you use any while the engine is on, the engine will stall and all eletricity will cut off). Also, the car does not seem to have problems starting, it will start up really quickly everytime!
oh yeah the weird part, if i step on the brakes/use the lights or anything else, the car will stall/all eletricity will cut out but the fans will come on, when i let go of the brakes or lights or what ever, the eletricity comes back and the fans shut off. wtf is going on???

A dead battery is only a symptom of a bad alternator. If the alternator does not continually charge the battery up, it will die again. If you cannot start the car, but once started, the car runs fine, then you have a dead battery. If you can start the car or jump start the car and it dies on its own after jumping, then you have a dead battery caused by a bad alternator.
If you are just putting a battery in, this only masks the problem temporarily. Hook up jumper cables from a good running car and see if the engine still stumbles when lights/brakes/accessories are on.
A friend of mine just had his car die on him just a few days ago. He was driving, then it just stalled. He said nothing else was wrong. When he tried to start it, the battery was almost dead. I gave him a jump start and it idled fine for about 5 minutes. Soon, the engine started missing, then finally shut off. We jumped it again and the same thing started happening. I hooked the jumper cables back up and immediately, the engine smoothed out and ran fine. Changed alternators, charged up the battery, and everything is fine now.
Your electricity is probably cutting out because the voltage drops below the threshold to operate the equipment. With no alternator recharging and supplying the necessary current, the items will die and electronics act wierd.
Don't go to a V-8 conversion just because your alternator is bad.

I'll agree with Tim and say it's probably your alternator. I had a similiar problem with my AWD Talon. The car would start fine, the voltage would eventually drop low enough that it would start to idle erratically and stall. What was more maddening was that it was a problem that would only happen when the alternator was hot, cool it down and it worked fine. This alt. was only 1 1/2 years old so I tried to find another problem but kept coming back to the alt. Replaced it, charged the battery and all is well.
"perhaps ill go with a V-8 conversion if i cant figure out what is going on. "
You believe that this is some fault with the rotary engine and that some push-rod V8 is the answer to all of lifes little problems?
Please don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Find your real problem and life will be good again. :-)

yea id say alternator or something else electronic is shorting out...but u have a voltmeeter, check voltage with car off...then start it up and check voltage...voltage should be higher, mine was like 13.7-8
but non the less different from when the car is off
but non the less different from when the car is off
im pretty sure i don't have an exposed wire shorting out somewhere cuz if there was one, the amp meter would tell me that something is sucking up amps from the battery.
i have tried jumping it and the same thing happens even when the other car is reving to keep the amps up, the car would still cut off if i used any accessories, i will check the alternator today and keep you updated, i have checked the voltage after starting the car and it jumps from 12.5 to 13.8 volts. im not sure how much amps the alternator is putting out though so voltage might not mean squat. thank you for your suggestions though! ill keep trying.

I'm having the same problem but my car only shuts off when it is cold. If I try driving it before it reaches normal driving temperature (about 7 mins after start up), it will stall and shut off. After reaching normal driving temp, it runs fine and doesn't shut off. I have a miata battery in it because of the size of the intercooler but i'm running at about 12.4-13.4 volts.

Here, try this thread. I had some trouble with my alternator the other day and this write up is basically my experiences. It's pretty much universal so the fact that I have an FC doesn't make much of a difference.
