weird grinding sound when turning motor

OK well my car is almost put back together so the other day i draind my storage oil and put in new oil, did the same with the tranny but i only added 2qts for now(all i had)...my buddy spun the motor, and i heard this weird grinding noise coming from what i think might be the flywheel area and it doesnt grind the whole way round just like 1/8 of the way... now this is a brand new motor, used flywheel, new clutch, used tranny, everything was in good shape and i went over and done everything to spec(well somewhat)...any ideas on what it could be? or am i just a worry wart

thanks

What kind of spark plugs are in there?
If you have the incorrect plugs in, they could be catching on the apex seals as they pass over the spark plugs holes..

while a friend spins the motor, peek through the inspection hole in the tranny and listen/look for something that is touching.

I've replaced a transmission on a car before and the flywheel would grind part way just exactly as you described. Removed and replaced with a different flywheel noise went away.

heres what i found out...i took out the clutch slave cylinder, and it still had the noise i was like wtf but i put my finger in the whole the clutch/flywheel is rubbing on the bracket the slave cylinder push on....

i felt a spring on the inside of the bracket, moved the spring to the outside of the bracket, spun the motor the noise went away...but then when i put the slave cylinder back in it popd out and started rubbing again...

ideas???thoughts??comments??
