hi, does anyone know how to make a fd's parking/e-brake stronger/beable to grab harder? i have already tried adjusting the brake line but i still noticed that at 25-30mph, when you pull up on the parking/e-brake nothing much happens, is this normal. the only time it grabs is at ~2mph which is weak. also, i noticed that i can park on steep grades with the parking/e-brake on and it will hold the car. has anyone else noticed this?

 

I have!!! Man, I was washing my car at my friends house and his driveway is slanted toward the road. Well I parked, with turbo timer going so it was not in gear, but I pulled up really hard on the ebrake, cautiously took my foot off the brake, and it held. About 2 or 3 min later the car just starts rolling into the street...WTF!!!! so I pulled it back in, sat there for a min, left it in gear and put the ebrake on. I was pissed! What can we do to take care of this???

I noticed this also...It makes it really hard to drift.

Dont know how to fix it...I'm planning on taking a look and see if there's anthing I can do next time I get it on the lift.

 

i checked my rear brakes and there is alot of meat still on the pads! i dont get it, everything else on out cars are top notch such as the suspension to the amazing 1.3 liter engine that can put out over 500hp to the kick butt, throw you into the dash braking system but what is with the parking/e-brake, did the designers just have a brain fart and skip over this trait?

no one i know can explain this yet most people have this problem. im leaning toward getting a brembo big brake upgrade to solve this problem, this might be the only way to fix this quirk.

 

When I used to pull up my ebrake, it went up almost all the way to the top of it's range of possible motion, and I didn't fell resistance until about half way. I had Dave at kdr tighten it, and the effects were immediately noticeable. I can only pull the ebrake up half as high as before, and it starts to resist right from the bottom.

I recommend all FD owners have a shop tighten their ebrakes; I've already had my R1 roll down a hill one time, and once was enough

 

That kinda scares me...Esspically for the fact that i live on a 30+ degree hill... We have already had the mail ladys car let go and go down the hill and jump the curb into someones side garage..

 

Can you adjust the e brake at the rear caliper? Just curious... Never had any problem with mine.

 

E-brake is adjusuted at the lever. You have to take off or lift up the console panel to get to the adjusting nut. Very simple

 

yeah, the e-brakes are adjusted at the lever. its not hard at all. the rx7 workshop manual has the procedure for it. if you dont own a workshop manual then goto www.iluvmyrx7.com and under one of the tabs you will find the whole workshop manual in pdf format. good luck!

 

It is soo simple. Lift the console and ajust the cable tension with a deep socket 10mm. Just make sure you leave some play in the cable (when e-brake is off) so your brakes do not drag. My FD had like .5" of play on the cable and would not even hold the car anymore on steep hills. The cable was just stretched out from 10 years of parking in a driveway slope.

 

Yup, the parking brake on the FD is crap. I came out one day and my FD was at the bottom of the drive way. Luckily it didn't roll into the street. I adjusted it before, but the adjusting nut only goes down so far.

 

GoodfellaFD3S- did Dave at kdr just tighten the cable or did he do something to the rear brakes?

 

I understand for those with a turbo timer, but for the rest: don't you guys put your car into gear when you park? I've never parked a car in neutral.

 

I always pack a car in gear.. Regardless of wut it is. But as far as on a hill you should have your tires where they will hit the curb.

 

The first week I got my FD about 2 years ago I left the car running in the drive way and its a little steep, so Im in the kitchen when one of the neighbors knocked on the door and told me my car had plowed into the gate and pushed it into the street. Good thing nobody hit the car but it left some nasty scratches on my rear bumper
