Tial has new wastegate called MV-R which is what I got (not installed). Tial says running it watercooled on rotary applications is not required but highly recommended.

Ignoring the marketing brochure below, what can be the real advantages and disadvantages of watercooling the wastegate? I'm not sure if this is adding another possible future failure point and if it's really needed.

 

One theory I have heard is that the new MV-R and MV-S wastegates don't dissipate heat as well as the older gates due to the more compact design. So that's one reason why they are equipped for water cooling.

The main reason to cool the wastegate would be to extend the life of the internal parts (diaphragm, valve, etc).

 

I don't think the supposed benefits offset the added plumbing.

 

I ordered my dual wastegates when V44 was out but I think around the time of delivery MV-R was out so that's what I've been sent. I didn't complain since it's the "new and improved" product. I didn't pay attention to to details. Anyway no big deal I'll run them non-watercooled.

Yeah I think so too. Just wanted to double check. My mechanic told me he's sold few of those none with watercooling activated.

I'll let you guys know if mine fails due to heat in the long run.

 

More plumbing = more failure points. Its a novel idea but I really don't feel it is needed.

 

I'm considering removing the AST for simplicity, I'd be a hypocrite if I added extra plumbing to the wastegates

 

+1 i left my h20 ports open to be air cooled instead

 

Just run a line from your air pump.

 

Just another thing to add to an already challenged cooling system.
