I want to change my water temp sensor but upon comparison to the factory N391 sensor, my current sensor appears too large. The threaded portion of the sensor is a touch over 5/8"(m16 I believe) in diameter and is supposed to be m10 I think. I'm changing because I got a single turbo harness from a member and my sensor is wrong compared to the clip. Any thoughts??? Or more info needed? Thanks

 

Probably want to post a pic up. Not sure what you're talking about.

Also, there are multiple temp sensors - the ECU temp sensor, the fan switch, and the sensor for the gauge.

Here's a pic showing the sensor in question, is the one on the right. The clip is wrong. The green clip is the one its supposed to plug into. It's the water temp sensor for the ecu. I'll get a pic of the hole shortly.

 

Looks like a GM sensor that uses tapered threads. The factory hole was probably drilled/tapped. Do you still have a factory EMS?

 

No, I'll be running the adaptronic. I looked for a part number even with a magnifying glass and couldn't find it. I believe I'm going to swap out the housing for one that will allow me to use the correct parts. I don't like mismatching stuff. Makes troubleshooting more difficult down the line.

I didn't even notice it was tapered. Could be npt then, I'll check it with my taps/dies. I just want to verify what was done for piece of mind I suppose.

 

That's not a Mazda temp sensor, it's probably a GM sensor. Many aftermarket ECU's can't work with the stock sensor so you have to drill and tap for a GM sensor and put the appropriate connector on the harness.

If you are supposed to be using a stock sensor, I'd go get a stock one. They RARELY if ever fail, I'd just get a used one.

So after verification, it turns out the hole is 1/4" npt. So my fix was to take a brass 1/4" npt plug and drill out the center, I then tapped it for m12x1.5 which Is the size of the stock sensors threads. Hope this helps anyone who has this issue in the future.
