Water Temp gauge mounting.

I am putting in a DEFI water temp gauge. I have tapped the thermostat housing.

The DEFI has a brass sensor, and a steel adaptor.

Is the steel adaptor required, or can I just mount the threaded brass sensor directly? Or is this a bad idea because of metal properties (aluminum/brass, rate of expansion, etc)?

The adapter is probably for use with a pre-existing mounting spot. You probably don't need it. Many people have mounted sensors in the same location, with no adapter.

Anyone happen to have a pic of exactly where/how you mounted it (newbie here..)

And I'm askin specifically for the Defi gauge, since my friend's Autometer water temp came w/ these steel adaptors that screwed right into somewhere on the coolant filler neck I believe...

Thanks
