Water temp...
Hey guys,
I did a quick search, and found people with water temp from 90 to 110 celcius driving around the city. I was wondering about my water temperature yesterday as I was driving home... and wanted to see if you guys thought my temp was too high.
I have a FMIC in front of my radiator, but I have upgraded to the Koyo radiator. ANyways, I am running stock twins. It was about 80-85 degrees yesterday late afternoon... I was in stop and go traffic... The car hit water temp of 103 degrees celcius... and stayed there. The traffic lessened and we started cruising at about 60 mph... and I saw the air temp drop pretty significantly (60, down to mid 40's), but the water temp didn't drop much at all... I think it went from 103 to 101 degrees celcius. Is this too high?
thanks

depends on your comfort level. 103 isn't overheating. what temp does your ecu kick the fan on? that's the real key. don't matter if you have a koyo, if you're fans dont come on, temps will rise and rise...
Yesterday eve (Friday) I drove to Manhattan from Long Island with water temps around 90C range while on 495/GC. I don't remember my Air Intake Temps for this stretch.
Then I got stuck in traffic on the WilliB for 20 minutes. Water temps went up to 95C and Intake Air Temps slowly crept up to 65-67C. When I turned on the a/c while on the WilliB, my water temps went to 96C and the AIT to 67C.
After creeping along in Manhattan for another 15 minutes, my water temps stayed at 96 with the A/C on and the IAT continued to creep higher till they finally hit 71C. That is when I stopped.
I have the Koyo radiator with a small Blitz SMIC. I'm not sure what my IAT are normally as I only started monitoring that a couple of days ago. At night I saw it around the 40C range when on the highway.
Hope that helps. You do run higher than I do, but that could just be due to your FMIC.

the highest I have ever seen is 103. That is in Tucson 114 deg summer day with the a/c on. I have a stock radiator. My temps are usually 87-91. I have my first fan coming on at 87 and the second fan at 90

103c is a bit strange because your fans should come on at about 99 or so which should bring the temps down to the mid 90's or so on a hot day then they will then climb back up and repeat fans etc...With ac running the fans will run so even in traffic temps over 100 means something is wrong.
Check for loose fitting hoses or caps. If you have not flushed the system or it appears dirty couldn't hurt. Also be sure your oil is topped and changed every 3k. Clean the rad fins, oil cooler fins, and engine if they are really dirty. If all else fails drill some small holes in your t-stat

The stock ecu does not turn the fans on until 221F or 105C. The stock PFC turns the fans on at 99C or 100C.
Even with a new t-stat and the PFC set to turn the fans on at 92C, I still will creep up to above 100C with the A/C on in bad stop-and-go traffic on a 90+ day.

Anyway if your temps stay the same after some inspecting or you find a problem let us know the outcome

My water temp went to 120 after chasing a F355 down the highway (and beating the crap out of it) Sunday noon...... then 130..... 140..... I stopped, steam coming out from coolant bottle, waited 30 min, refilled, and drove off. This is not the first time this happend and I'm amazed I still have an engine.
Mine runs at 85-95 C on the highway (as reported by Power FC - top of coolant neck). Stock rad., stock fans, no extra baffling, PFS SMIC. I have the SR (Kyoto) rad in the basement ready for install, but that's next years project. I run 4 litres of glycol in distilled water - no water wetter - when I change the coolant every 2nd year. I have seen it go to 110 C climbing hard (18% grade) at "lower" speeds - like 30 to 50 MPH. This was on the "RX-7 road" in B.C. - highway 99 between Lilloet and Pemberton (really, they built this road just for bikes and RX-7s ;-).
really??
hottest water temp i seen with my R2 is 108 C when my Fuse shorted out for the cooling fan. Stopped the motor right away, it was right below Red Zone on Stock Temp
Normally ranges from 90 to 105 Celcius at stop and go. 89 to 93 at 65 mph + cruise, of course 104 + when at cal speed way. These are with Redline water wetter, i barely put regular coolant. Cooling is one of my concerns too as this will help wear the **** out of water seal.

thanks.. definitely looks like my car is running a bit too warm... I will try to flush out my radiator. The radiator from the outside is pretty clean... no clutter etc. Another thing, I've heard people say Mobil 1 synthetic reduced their water temp quite significantly. Perhaps this is somethign to try? What weight do you guys use? thanks
