I just bought my fd last week. The owner told me about the hatch. Is yours only on the sides where the rubber is? Water gets in there for him, but not inside the actual car. He gave me a syringe like thing to suck it out.

I had that..my weather stripping was worn and my spoiler had separated a bit from the hatch. Water was able to leak in and collected into the spare wheel well. My early fix was drill a drain hole. Although i would not advise anyone to do that because the gas tank is right under neath.... Just get some newer stripping

Typically it is the little foam seals under the plastic screw inserts that hold the tail lights in. Simple fix, order them new from Mazda or kludge it with some sealant. Remove plastic insert and seal the back side.

Thanks for the suggestion re: Taillights. Ill try that on mine. However I can see water marks under the LHS boot plastic (which looks like a pain to remove!)
Any body else? Also mine fills up the rear seat wells & the passenger (LHS being RHD car) footwell.
Thinking it was coming from the heater motor assembly, i removed that, then the wiper motor & sprayed water around, checked seals & they all look fine. I then welded up the rear hatch squirter & wiper holes, as the rear spoiler had gone. Another point, my LHS door closes very firmly compared to the RHS, almost as if its a bit tight?

Im so sick of the water problems, I just keep it covered & hope for the best..

I had water coming in through the holes in the hatch where the wing bolts on. Lift up the hatch and it comes out. What didn't come out ended up in the spare tire area. Some sealant or gasket material under the wing will keep it out.
