Question Wastegate Problems

confused: Help I have a problem with the wastegate on my second turbo. The first turbo boosts fine then the second kicks in and its like its not even there.

I am starting to modify my car. I have just put in a ney downpipe, midpipe, and catback. New ACT street/strip clutch.

Should I replace both wastegates? What type will work best within a reasonable price? Factory or aftermarket???

What should be the next mods for added performance?

Thanks for the help.

It seems like you are a little off track. First you need to controll that boost that your pushing, and if its more than 12 psi you should look into an upgraded ECU quick! You also need to get a boost gauge to know where you stand first. To make your car last I would put back on the main cat until you are ready to control that boost and able to add extra fuel. Also you are mixed up about wastegates. I'am no pro, but I believe you're looking at external wastegates. The rx7 does not have an external wastegate stock, they have internal wastegates. There for its almost impossible to upgrade your wastegate, and 99% sure that isn't the problem. If you want to run without boost creep which I'am sure you are getting, you need to first search boost creep to know what it is, (I dont feel like getting into it) then port the wastegate. A mechanic will need to do this since your a beginner to rx7's. What they do is just drill the hole bigger so more air can flow out of it. With rx7's, think fuel addition before hp addition. This is not a piston engine.

The search button is located in the upper right hand corner under the title "SEARCH". This will help any begining questions you might have with the RX7.

I know some people like to have a fresh opinion on things because opinions change with times. This is why I answered your question. Others wont be so nice. I hope I have helped you out and saved another rx7.

I would agree with you. But, this problem occured prior to the downpipe installation. I am also basing this on the opinion of the mechanic that did the work and tested the boost. He said that the 1st stage is getting 10lbs and the second stage is getting about 3lbs. I intend on getting a computer over the next week. I am very aware of what boost creep is. I had the downpipe put on during a clutch installation for cost savings only, not as a sole method of increasing performance.

I too am no pro. I am just looking for a little advice!

sounds to me like a secondary turbo control problem/leak. basically i would recommend checking for any vacum lines, checkvalves, and solenoids that are unhooked or cracked. unfortunatley, it's hard to tell exactly what your problem might be because there are so many possibilites. gotta love all those vacum lines good luck
