warranty on FD worth it?

I am thinking about purchasing a 94 touring 5 speed with about 85k and original motor/ turbos. For about 14000 I can get it with 1 year warranty. Now I know that mazda dealerships can sometimes be bad news for fixing problems but is this worth it? I drove it today and it seems in good shape and pulls well. Also I live in the dc area if anyone knows a good dealership to go to that could fix any problems i would have covered by warranty.

Thanks guys for any help you can give me.

Dan

I'd take any warranty I could get when buying this type of car. Be aware that there may be some specific clauses in the warranty relating to rotary engines. Read closely. There have been threads posted where dealer/warranty co. won't stand behind some claims due to wording in the warranty.

The warranty I had (which just expired two weeks ago) basically covered everything that never breaks. It did not cover apex seals, coolant seals, tranny syncros, or turbo seals. It did not cover any seal at all. It was completely worthless for me, and I wasted $1100 on it. Just read carefully if you do decide to get it.

Warrenty is like insurance. You pay for it. When something happens, they'll try to get out of paying.

warranty

One other thing you want to think about is that If your car is NOT stock, the insurance companies generally will not honor the warranty even if what breaks is stated as "covered" in the warranty. Most of the time when you modify your car, it voids the warranty.

thanks guys....I have not read through it but I know it covers the engine and turbos, but I am not sure about the tranny.

Overall though what do you think about 14k for this car??about 13 without waranty I oculd probably get it for maybe less. When I walked out the dealership the guy was right must have been behind me and about a block down the road I get into my car and the guy taps on my window with another offer. SO hopefully if I go back they will bring the price down more. I am still looking elsewhere though......

As of now it is stock and I would plan to keep it that way for now, or atleast during the 1 yr warranty.

Maybe the engine would go and they would put a new one in while the warranty covers it, that would be sweet

My car came with a 3year/36,000 mile warranty. I bought it from lamotorcars.com. It covers pretty much everything. Even the 5 speed conversion they don't know about .

My $850 warranty paid for new engine and transmission

it had $100 deductiable and would not cover rear seal($200).

they would not renew my coverage, wonder why?

Take the warranty! Mine paid for about 11 grand in repairs including a new motor/turbos, 3 water pumps, tranny rebuild, etc. If you can get a longer warranty. Buy it!.

FYI, Keep ALL your service records. If something goes wrong. The warranty co.(GE Capital) may demand to see proof of you properly maintaining the car by doing regular oil changes, etc...

My intercooler cracked and my warranty covered it. I couldnt believe that they would cover it, I thought they were gonna screw me. They even sent out an inspector to check out my engine.

Sounds like it. I got my stock 94 Touring with 86k miles for 16 grand w/ warranty. What color is it, and whats the condition like? Is it stock?

it is stock as far as i know and it seems to be in pretty good condition. There is a small ding on the driver side and a decent size scratch on the other side. Other than that it looks great and felt pretty good driving it. I am pretty new though when it comes to driving experience and this is actually the first one i have driven ( I currently have an rsx s) It pulled very hard but there seemed to be a good amount of vibration in 3rd gear on the stick but it shifted smoothly. Definitely a completely different feel than the rsx. It was a good different though.

Thanks for the input so far. I hope to be a proud owner of an FD soon enough!! wether it be this or another

I would read the warranty, and then read it again, and just for fun, read it one more time before buying it, and make sure it is from a reputable larger company.

I still can't believe anyone would offer a warranty on a ten year old used car - especially an FD3S!

Yep. I bought my FD from a Honda dealer. They actually PUSHED me to get the Honda warranty (actually, it's not Honda but whatever). I laughed and signed up.

So far, I have replaced under warranty:

*rear suspension bushings
*alternator
*oil metering pump ($2300 alone!!!!!)
*power antenna

Just replacing the suspension bushings (a necessity on a 75k car) will pay for your warranty.

i have a warranty from www.warrantydirect.com

i would recommend them as they replaced the engine in the car but they now have a disclaimer on their site

"We no longer warranty twin turbo cars."

Yep, bushing time for me. Do you have to go OEM or is there a generic substitute? These OEM parts prices are getting to be absolutely insane.........

I don't know, I suppose there may be a way to get generic substitutes work but it wouldn't be worth my time (even if I didn't have the warranty). I am very well aware of your "ghetto" tendencies, so I'm sure you'll give it a go...

BTW, the OEM prices ARE insane. Especially since the bushings really don't last very long. My mechanic replaced his first set at 25k miles!

Most of my rear bushings were shot at 54k.
