Warning, Greddy FMIC users.

Anyone using the Greddy Type 24V or 34V FMIC should check your intercooler/anti sway bar mount. During an oil change, I notice the right side of the raditaor was sitting lower than the left. I did more searches and found that my anti-sway bar mount had broken off, but much to my surprise, the broken piece was on top of the under belly pan.

To repair the broken mount, I wet down to HomeDepot and got a 1" by 3' 1/8" thick metal bar to reinforce my mount. I fabricated some side reinforcement pieces and had my friend welded all the pieces back together. As you will see, the result is a super stiff intercooler mount. To finsh things off, I gave the mount a fresh coat of paint.

Nice welds on the repair. I'll add this to my list why I don't like FMICs. The bracketing, mounting, etc of them is poor to say the least. If you spend time and $$ you can get them to at least be mounted correctly anyway.

I would really love to, but I can't. I'll be at the phase releast for our new home that saturday. Yeah, the new place is going to be one hell of a drive, 80miles from work!

I only spent $5.00 for the material, and another $5.00 for friend's lunch. This is what should have been included with the Greddy kit.. FMIC rules.

No offense to anyone but if those are the mounts for the FMIC out of the box the only decent place for them is the trash. Those flimsy tabs aren't going to do anything but keep the ic from falling on the floor while the car is parked.

Jetlag's stiffening of the mounts looks great and is how they SHOULD be done.

Re: Warning, Greddy FMIC users.

Hmm. Have not had a problem with my FMIC Type 24 V-spec mounting. But then again, I have not broken my front sway bar mounts. FWIW I use Tri Point's front sway bar mount reinforcers. Nice weld job on the repair.
