Warning/attention!
i was just scammed $12500 through escrow.com and autotrader this week from someone selling a 1995 silver rx7 it was in autotrader for 12300 in north carolina, it had 19" chrome rims, body kit, tinted windows, a system, and 29000 origional miles to good to be true? well it was, he then percieved to tell me that it was in Rucca baton florida, and he would ship it up through escrow.com which was safe accept he got my ip address. if ANYONE has any information about this car taht i am talking about or has experienced something similar or knows anything will help me i want my money back because that was all i had for a car and its all gone. so everyone PLEASE be careful the guy seemed so nice he even offered to pay for shipping that didnt happen. the day i wired the money, he took it all. this is a warning that i wish i could put across the internet because i dont think the police can catch him and this is one of the fastest growing scams out there
judging by the pictures he sent, i really looked like it was based in california so people please watch out for me if you see anything suspicious PM me i sold my second gen, im a poorer college student more then ever with no car!

did you check the escrow case number with escrow before sending money? if you didn't, then you are the fool.
I got one of those emails that looked very real. checked the case number with the escrow service and it didn't exist. I emailed them back and they never responded. fraud.
If you didn't take the time to verify, then it is your own fault.

1995 RX-7 is worth double what you thought you were paying...research is the 1st defense.

Try contacting the FBI, open a case and submit any info/evidence you have. Sorry to hear for your loss. A friend of mine almost fell for such a scam a year ago, he rarely asks for second opinions and when he asked me about this killer deal for this car from England I had to tell him all about that type of scam and he was pretty shocked to realize that had he not asked he woulda been scammed.
If you have any emails try contacting the FBI I believe they should have the access to the servers and internet service he accessed to contact you with the information. Don't expect them to hop on it for you though, I'm sure numerous scams like this take place daily.
Good luck.

we sent escrow.com the information, when we logged onto escrow.com he made it so that it sent every bit of information to him, as far as the case number, my dad took care of that, and yea thanks for calling him a fool jackass
we called the insurance company before hand and they said everything checked out ok and it was a clear title, we talked to the guy several times, we called escrow.com, and everything was OK but the day we sent the money to escrow.com, he immediatly pulled the money out.
as far as me buying a 95 rx7 for 12500 he sounded like richass that had more money than he knew what to do with it
i work 7 days a week and i go to school so i couldnt drive 11 1/2 hours to ruca baton florida
i feel like a idiot enough for trusting an insurance company and trusting the company that ebay ships so thanks alot for ya'll to just call me a fool

Sorry to hear. This world is full of filth and decete. Just today my wife's work partner had her mother and baby held at gunpoint execution style while three men robbed their jewelry store. They are still at large. What is this world coming to. Good luck w/ your situation.

Dude it sucks that you got screwed over, but you can't blame anyone here for not being all too sympathetic. If you had done any research at ALL you would have known that no way in hell would a 95 RX-7 w/22K miles go for that cheap. Its got scam written all over it plus the fact that it was an escrow deal seals the scam deal. Goodluck with whatever happens now, but its definitely a hard lesson learned.

yea defenitly lesson learned dont buy nice cars over the internet, the FBI has the case now, he even sent us a damn title of the car and everything was fake, i could give a rats *** bout sympathy, all im tryin to say is i dont know if it happened to other people but watch out these lowlifes are getting good and thats the number one growing scam out there in the world right now, weve been talking back in forth witht his guy for 3 weeks, you'd think some people would have some decency in em, but i guess now. We had everything saved that he sent us though, so we really hope we can catch this guy.

Unless everything he used to communicate with you was stolen/puglic property you will not really have much chance in tracing him on your own.
You mentioned you talked to him, did you have caller ID? did you log his #?
Did he email you?
the information on the car, it has a record, what about the owners? names locations..
the only part that should be concrete is the money trail. where did the money go?
You really should call the FBI and ask to speak with somebody to file a case regarding this incident/loss of yours.
Its a huge loss, but stop complaining about the lack of sympathy and start taking the right steps , the sooner the better...
Don't expect it to be an open and close case but its better than just letting that person run rampant... enough complaints will yield in an eventual arrest.

Damn sorry to hear man.
But when you paid, didnt you get a confirmation number? Maybe they can track the IP of where the money was pulled? If it was done electronically?
That would be a good place to start.
What about traced calls from phone calls. You said he mailed the title, from where?
I would try to get every piece of info you can on this guy, it might take time but im sure if you think hard and try to look for any suspicious clues of your transaction, you'll find him and get your money back.
Good luck man, its a scary thing you're going through.

good luck with this, i hope the ****** gets caught and hung! and hopefully you get your money back. it's a sad sad story hearing that you got scammed trying to get the car.
bought plane tix about 4 days in advance, rented a car and a hotel room, bought mine in person, too. a lot of people tell me that i went a little overboard, but i also know i won't get scammed so easily.

From what I've seen these scam artists steal the photos of cars from legit ads and then reword them and set up new ads elsewhere. Craig's List is full of them. You can spot them right off because the cars are priced way too low. Often times...as you seemed to get a hint of.....the background scene in the photo doesn't match the "seller's" alleged address. So they might say they're in Virginia and you'll see a palm tree in the background.......or some similar incongruity.
You can never be too careful or skeptical when there's money at stake.

I had it shipped cross country w/o seeing it. I had a pre-purchase inspection done at a Mazda dealer and had a three way call with the bank holding the title. I felt very confident about the situation since I took extra precautions.
I hope you find a way to get you money back.

Wishin I Still Had The FD
^ I'm sure you're aware that FD prices have gone up considerably in the last couple years. So his expectations were a little too high. Not to say there aren't any good deals out there.
