Back in the early days when only reprogrammed ECUs
were available, they were the only economical upgrade.
Then the PMS came out which was user adjustable but not too user friendly , and had limited ajustments. It was a piggy back. Neither one solved the 3k stumble.
Now the Apexi PFC has been available since 1999. It is the current KING or bang for the buck, solves 3k stumble, and can be use with any HP level you want.
M2 ecu upgrade, forget it. M2 does not support running a MP or high boost because it does not allow for running larger injectors. Sooner or later you will want to modify more and you are stuck with old technology.
Spend the extra buck and get the PFC which will never have to be replaced due to upgrading.
I think you can hit about 320HP with it or around 270ftlbs.

With Stock port, Intake, CB, HighFlow Cat, DP, SMIC, HKS Twin Power Ign., Supra FP & 13 PSI my car dyno'd at KC Engineering:
278 rwhp on a Mustang Dyno or 310 rwhp on a Dyno jet....
Get the M2 ECU for $400 for now and then sell it for $400 when you really need to upgrade to a PFC(like when you get bigge injectors to run a street ported motor etc.) You don't need a PFC yet. The M2 ECU is a nobrainer and is tuned conservatively and is safe for your motor/mods.
If you do get a PFC, DO buy the datalogit and a wideband 02. That's the only way you will know if you are tuning your car correctly and safely. Otherwise, you are just flying blind.

I got my ECU from jpandes I think it was $450 shipped to Europe. At that time I was afraid it may not work on Euro-spec FD (having only 239hp stock) as no-one did it before. Well.. it works. I have had my car dynoed on MAHA LPS 2000 dyno and measured 250rwhp (285flywheel hp - they measure rwhp then measure the drivetrain loss and add it up) and 260lb/ft of torque.
That was on stock IC, old plugs and 12psi on autometer boost gauge. I'm running straight through exhaust, but from the DP back it's only about 2" pipe. Also I have a small exhaust leak at the DP/turbos.
Here is the graph:

I notice that everytime somebody asks about purchasing a Pettit or M2 ecu they are told to purchase a Power FC instead because it is only 400-500 dollars more and is so much better. I agree that it is better. However, please remember that to get the real benefits of it, you will should have the FC Commanger, datalogit, access to a wideband, access to a dyno with a competent tuner and the money to pay for these things. This will all add up to alot more than the 900 dollars that is usually quoted. For people who have the basic bolt-ons, I don't see why they need the Power FC. It's true that you can extract more power with the Power FC but some people are happy with 280-310 rwhp, considering the money savings that can be used for other necessary mods.
I am trying to stay content with approximately 280 rwhp, because i know that once you pass a certain horsepower level, you will need better brakes, intercooler, knock control, clutch, injectors, ecu, oil cooler, etc.
My point is that maybe we should not tell everyone to get the power fc without asking what their horsepower target is.

I was trying to figure out if the numbers (HP) that M2 claims were really there on the stage 3 kit. We all know not everything claimed is true. As for the PFC I think that toy is everyones dream, but no all of us have the $$$ for it. We all must live within our means.

The only dyno I have seen was on the SCC project car. It made 300 at the wheels with the M2 intake/ic/dp/cb at 12.5 psi. I don't know if they just slapped it on or if they were actually able to tune it on the dyno.

Yep, I bought one along with a Datalogit and sold them both unused a couple months later because with the more research I did, I found there was no rationale for needing it for what I was going to do with my car - keeping it relatively stock with a just few bolt-ons for reliability's sake. Anyone considering the same, save your money and get a boost controller. Or if you need it to have the cooling fans come on at a lower temp., do the fan mod or install a Miata Thermoswitch.
