New FD, what do you think?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...EBWN%3AIT&rd=1
Is it worth 17k? Also what do you guys think about reliability with the current mods. Any more mods needed for reliability?
large street port done on brand new Mazda crate engine, rebuilt by PF and tuned by him with the purple ECU.
the car actually WAS owned by an old woman for the first bit of it's life. The current owner has barely driven it.
*also is that an old style PFS wing or what? It is no longer listed on his site.
Thanks for any help/info/advice.

worth 17k in your opinion? also what immediate mods would you suggest?
I mean for reliability. Also how often would it be safe to run 12psi?
also this is for driving almost daily in

Reliability I would get a radiator and an aluminum AST. I would also flush coolant, oil, and diff/trans fluids

what tranny and diff lube do you suggest. Also what weight oil does everyone run, and what brand. I am a Mobil 1 guy but since I will be running dino juice I don't have a preferance.
Also i will be going to Evan's coolant and a low pressure system.
The motor oil debate is a long and tedious one, but I like Mobil 1 15-50 myself. As far as the other fluids, somebody else can help you with those, I haven't dealt much with them. Good luck with the car, the price seems quite fair to me. Josh

Mobil 1 15w-50 is what I've always used as well. Just make sure to change it before it gets too cold out. Those cold starts are pretty rough. It just requires a little more warm up time.
After all these years we should have an idea which is best. This same debate went on with my other car about what oil to use when breakign in new cams. The manufacturers say to use dino juice, but I think that is just because the instructions are outdated.
The difference with this issue is that the oil is injected and burned. BUT, one can draw a comparison to 2cycle motorcycles. I have always used synthetic oil in my bikes.
Also is protek R synthetic? If so we have some hipocrites out there.

The new owner barely drove it? Who blew the first engine? The old woman who also autocrossed between bingo and church. FD's are not very easy to get in and out of. I seriously doubt an old lady sat in it and after getting out said 'I'll take it!'The old woman owner really is the oldest trick in the book... The car maybe healthy and it may really be a good deal but just that line about ownership makes me question both the car & owner's integrity.
Brand new 1.3L with 2700 miles on it
The engine was ported before it was put in. Really? Paperwork?
PF v mounted inter cooler. SURE it is......
PF 3 inch down pipe. Ok, maybe. I'd verify.
PF 3 inch high flow cat. Same.
PF 3 inch full exhuast. Probably..
PF cold air intake setup. Well, yeah.
PF purple piggie back computer. Piggie? lol
Koni adjustable shocks. Sure, maybe
PF lowering spring. Again..
PF front & rear sway bars.. Again..
Full pollyurithane bushing kit.. Again..
PF rear spoiler. That much is obvious.
I actually like it though..
Cross drilled rotors. Cant tell from pics.
Mazda efini badges. Yay.
If you got the paperwork, and can verify that all this **** is there, great. If not, price seems a bit steep. But if you already bought it I guess it doesn't matter now.
Oh, ignore spelling. I copy/pasted.

Does PF make a v-mount intercooler? THat looks like a SMIC to me.
Also, go redline for the trans/diff fluid and I'd say use regular oil just because you have to change it so often and its less strain on the wallet. Too much controversy about the syn/reg oil debate and which viscosity to use.
I didnt see if the car had any fuel system mods, but with the ecu you should be fine. I'd look into maybe a new fuel pump or larger injectors sometime if you want to keep the higher boost settings.

Also I have seen the car, the items that are listed are there. I am contacted PFS to obtain a receipt.
I'm very iffy about the wing. It looks nicer in person, but I'm sure it's also expensive. i'l like to sell it and get the Panspeed one i've wanted (or a stock VR-4 one).

Well actually you would be questioning Peter Farrell's integrity. This was said by him. Also the carfax report checks out with the same info. The woman owned it for the majority of it's life. Then sold it to her son who converted it to single turbo and blew it up within a month. He took to to PFS and then got sent to CA (he was in the armed forces). He decided to stay in Cali so he sold the car to Peter. Who in turn sold it to and built it for the kid I am buying it from.

In my eyes, Peter's integrity has already been tarnished here so just because 'he' said it dosen't sway my opinion one way nor the other.
Car fax about the old woman... She may had been using her name to help her son out with insurance rates. This is an extremely high probability so I wouldn't dismiss it.
BTW- Vette's are much easier to get in and out than FD's. And I wasn't stereotyping I was using logic, old bones VS a car that many people that I know (not enthusiasts) complain about getting out of. Well ok the bingo and church was a sterotype
.I'm just playing the devil's advocate here. When it comes to used car sales I question everything that can't be proven. People want to get rid of their old cars for a reason, no? Like I said earlier, the car may be sound and it may be a good deal but I would definetly take the car to a third party who is not involved with the car in any way, shape, or form and have them evaluate it. Because in the end, it doest matter who owned it what does matter is the current state of the vehicle.
But in all, I hope that the car is great and everything works out for you.

the guy i bought my FD off of didn't really want to get rid of his car... i lucked out, he just didn't use it and didn't want it to sit all the time. i had to lowball him a little bit though because of loan circumstances, but he knocked off $1000 because i was straight up with him and told him i've been looking for years but i just couldn't give what he was asking. he told me everything about it, what was wrong, what was new, what needed to be new and based on what my local dealer and other mechanics have said, it was all spot on. granted, not all sellers are like this, but there are good ones out there!
