Wannabe first time RX-7 3rd gen owner
Alright, here's the deal. I've been in the market for a new car and i've always liked the RX-7. I definitely want an FD but i feel i need some information first before i jump headlong into this.
last march I bought a 1986 Nissan 300ZX which I thought was in seemingly great condition except for an aftermarket exhaust that was loud as **** for no reason. a month later the tranny goes on me and I get it rebuilt. That's about when I lost all interest in the car, when i realized it hadn't been as well maintained as had been advertised. I figured it could be a project car but I don't have the time or money to do that, i soon realized.
My questions would be:
Assuming I get a well maintained car off this forum, how much would I have to drop on average in repairs or regular maintenance? I've heard that you need to do the maintenance on-time if not before (which I can most definitely do) but I've heard they're unreliable as daily drivers and a daily driver is what mine would be. I know you can make it reliable if you know what you're doing but i don't. I just want to make sure i have enough money to spend on it instead of having it sit in the driveway because I don't have the money to repair it.
my parents want me to get something brand new with a warranty, I read some of the threads here and saw I can get a warranty from a dealership or third party. If i get a warranty on it, my parents won't care what I get, they just don't want me spending money needlessly when I have college stuff that comes first.
any thoughts? words of wisdom or reasons why i should/shouldn't own the car?

There are so many threads on this....and they all have the same content -- us older owners recommend not doing it, and you younger guys who want one don't listen. Do a search and you will turn up several threads. Please read the FAQ thread that is stickied near the top.
