? w/ Injector insulator install (photos)

I received these Insulators from Ray, but a little confused on the Secondary Injector install. In the first photo, you can see the "old insulator" which has a groove,..on the Diffuser.

The new insulator is notably thicker and has an opening that sits tight on the Injector Cap.

Is the "old insulator", in fact that,...or a different part?

The two are different in overall thickness and hole opening.

Does photo 2 show a proper installation, or should the part marked "old insulator" be removed and replace by the new insulator?

BTW, the new insulator does not fit properly on top of the Diffuser. Way too tight.

Thanks for any guidance and advise.

I would definitely not put the new and old insulator in at the same time. Only one or the other.

The injector insulators I've seen (original and new) have the groove in them. Perhaps they were updated and look different now, but I don't know.

Thanks Dave.

The OEM part # on the insulator package is N350-13-257. They fit perfectly on the Injector Cap, but do not fit onto/into the top of the Diffuser,..without causing the rubber insulator to deform in shape.

I'll call Ray tomorrow to confirm.

It's allowed to deform - just as long as it doesn't get pinched. Use a little engine oil.

Just checked the Part No. on another post and the part number for the Secondary Insulators [on that post] is NFO1-13-257A. So I probably received the wrong part which may explain the size difference and improper fit?

Now I see it.

NF01-13-257A is the original mazda part number for the primary insulator. I have some here and they look just like your 'old insulators'. Clearly, the new insulators you have look to match those.

N3A1-13-257 is the original pn for the secondary insulator. They are larger in diameter.

IIRC the insulators both fit between the rail and block, not on the cap of the injector. So you need a different set of insulators, and they should fit over the metal step in the rail.

THANKS Dave. Although it seems that the Insulator (PN's) are reversed as to the Primary and Secondary assembly (?).

Regardless, I appreciate all your advise and guidance .

One more question. ...

I know the Primary Fuel Distributor has the larger Insulator that slides onto the Distributor and seals at the Block. But does the Primary Diffuser have an Insulator (like the Secondary Diffuser) that sits on top of the Diffuser?

I ask because I haven't taken the Primary Diffusers out yet.

Once again, Thanks for all your help and please excuse my inquisition,...

I am doing the same thing!

NF01-13-257A is for the 2ndary rail/injector----1st photo on top of the diffuser(groove in the insulator)

N350-13-257 might be a replacement part for the secondary rail? I wouldnt use the the old & new insulator together eighter!

your new insulator appears to be neither the 2ndary nor primary stock insulator

I've attached a few blurry photos of both the primary (larger diameter) and 2ndary insulators

I have 5-10 secondary insulators and none look like the new one you have.

Thanks Guys.

I'm totally convinced I received the wrong parts. I'm sure Ray will make it good. Might as well order the Secondary and Primary Diffusers w/O-Rings too.

BTW, does a cracked Injector Cap pose any problems? If so, does Mazda sell these Caps separately?

The cap is there to hold the o-ring on. If it is broken, then the o-ring is compromised. We have replacement caps and o-rings for them if you get stuck. www.kgparts.com

UPDATE: I called and spoke with Ray today. As we suspected, the Secondary Insulators I received were for a 2nd Gen Rex. Ray apologized for the mix-up and told me to just chunk'um.

I should be receiving the correct ones by Friday.

In the information section they return cleaned injectors with new orings and caps. You may be able to get some parts there.

I haven't delt with them personally, but I may send a couple injectors up to be cleaned soon.

I was going to say that they looked like FC grommets, the "n350" part number is nearly always a S5, with only a few carry over components to the FD.

Sorry but I have a quickie question for someone if they hapen to read this...

I replaced my injectors. My rail pictured here had the 'red' injectors in it, and the 'clearish'/ which used to be purple in the lower rail on the block. Is that backwords, or maybe the owner here is putting 850's in both rails???

Don't worry about it. You couldn't fit a 2ndary in a primary slot if you tried.

Actually, it would "fit", or seem to fit,..but the o-rings wouldn't seat properly.

I know cause I just did it.

Notice that I inadvertently seated/inserted the longer Primary Injector ( light colored electrical hood) in the Secondary Rail. You can tell because the photos show the Pintle Cap sticking out through the rail.

I also seated the [shorter- red hooded] Secondary Injectors in Primary Rail. They popped right in,.. all the way in.

I came across my error just last night while searching the Forum to make sure I had it right.

I'm surprised no one caught the (my) major boo-boo!..

You got it right.

OEM Primary 550cc injector = Longer Body / light colored electrical connecting hood. Also longer pintle cap
OEM Secondary 850cc injector = Shorter Body / red colored electrical connecting hood. Also, shorter pintle cap

I'm the one that had them bass ackwards.

Ahhhh, I noticed that but I didn't think that they would have fit. The primaries are definitely the longer ones, but I thought the o-rings quite a bit bigger.

Well I didn't mean to stir things up. My issue I was having was due to a miss routed vac uumline, off by one port on the tb. Its good to know which way the injectors go as well I suppose. I just wasn't sure if maybe you were going for 4 - 850cc injectors all around.. Thats what I had figured from the picture.. I just wanted to make sure I didn't spend some hours tearing and replacing the injectors with them wrong..

Sorry again for barging into the thread.

No need to apologize. You didn't barge into anything. Your comments were well taken and definitely on-point.

Hell,..you were the only one that caught my fudge job!..

Thanks again.

I don't mean to wake this thread from the dead but I was having hte same sealing problem with my injectors. I had to get my injectors flow tested and cleaned and when I pulled out the rails I noticed the grommets where split and weren't reuseable. Either way I replaced them with decent thickness o-rings but that jsut did not work at all. So now I am ordering the parts from Ray Crowe. My only problem is when I pull out the injectors they don't this diffuser on them and it isn't int he block either. How could my car go so long without having these in there? Are they that important to have? I am not trying to skip corners but more jsut curious what they do and why they are needed. I have had boost/Vacuum problems for a while now and I think this whole setup is my main problem. Any information you guys could give me would be very helpful.

Do the diffusers sit way down in the injector holes? Do they take up space in the sealing of the two? I am putting a new fuel system in (CJ Motorsports) in another 250 miles of breakin of this engine so I don't want to spend a lot if they aren't really all that needed. Either way please help me out guys.
