VIS scoot knock off hood feedback

Got my VIS scoot knock off hood last week. It arrived cracked in 5 places, still trying to get that worked out. Every shop I take it too says they can fix it but won’t guarantee the work.

The fit is pretty good and the openings are fairly large and seem to be about the same size as RE hood. I was a little surprised that it changed the shape of the front but I had nothing but positive feedback and gawks. The fit is pretty good as well not quit stock good though. As for weight its about 10lbs lighter than stock when using home scales while holding the two hoods. Certainly makes the car feel fast but that is because I can hear the turbos betters.

That aside even without the center channel it is definitively functional without the rain gutters. In moving parking lots, to my surprise there is very little difference in engine and air temps. However once moving the car cools to much quicker. On my normal drive home the engine temp will reach 96C and 60 C air temps in heave city traffic. Now it’s about the same 95C. However once underway my car use to cool down way faster by the time I reached home to lower 90’s before. Now within just a few miles I’m back to a comfortable 88C with intake temp following suite.

The down side is in the morning it takes 20 minutes to reach 85C. That use to take 5 minutes.

It arrived cracked from VIS? Did you buy directly from them because it sounds like you got jacked if thats the case.

wow! same thing happened to me!

I got mine in Thursday and was cracked in 4 places, around the scoop and 2 front vents with a nice dent in 2 places as well... Haven't tried to test fit since I am waiting to get the damage claim resoloved... aside from that it looks nice and was looking forward to testing for temps...

Nice post btw, lets keep it up to see how they handle our issues!

Wow that SUX! I thought VIS was a "somewhat" reputable company. I personally haven't bought anything from them, but I know others who have and have personally seen their products. I guess their ok, but in the end you get what you paid for. Hope the situation gets resolved for the both of you.

I'm not going to publicly discuss the damage claim, aside from mounting it to the car was only way I could get it to the body shop.

I didn't purchase it from VIS they seem to charge a premium to consumers. Something like $800 and I paid like $720 delivered. It is a real VIS dealer though and an authentic VIS hood. It's hard to say if the damages are a factory defect or shipping. The body shop think that it is a factory defect. The packaging certainly wouldn't provide much protection from pressure related damage and that is from VIS.

zonblitz that is the same place mine is damaged dents included. The 5th crack is in one of the middle vent and hardly noticeable. I will PM you soon.

As for the quality, its better than RE fiberglass version that I saw which was wavy as hell with huge gaps. That may have just been a bad example as I've only seen one up close. Ultimately it wont matter as I plan to paint it with the car. The fact that it was back ordered for 4 months knocked me out of the paint booth. Now I have my wedding coming up and don't have the money for the paint job, so it's a bit of an issue. The front hole in driver side hinge had to be enlarged to bolt it on the car. Aside from that installation was a breeze. No hood latch adjustment required and its flush with the nose of the car. It does dump rain water right on my battery though so I guess I'll have to work out a solution for that. It also has the windshield washer sprayer pre-drilled.

The really nice thing is that the hood doesn't get hot like the stock one, it just doesn't conduct heat that well. Now if we could get someone to fab some CF intake pipes from the IC to intake we might be able to reduce some of the effects of heat soaking.

So far the shipping company Bax Woldwide sucks... they aren't too helpful with claim processing.
