Very Low knocks on fresh rebuild

Hi guys,

So I just rebuild the engine again as I messed it up the first time with the thrust bearing but the good thing was that nothing was damaged except for the stationary gear and the I had to get new water and oil seals.

So now all in all the engine is done 350miles 150 from the last rebuild and 250 from the new one. My question is that i am not getting any knocks since the new rebuild. The max knock reading that I have seen is 9 on the Power fc commander on the new rebuild. Is this ok or is the Knock sensor malfunctioning. Usually I see a max of 3-4 knocks. How do i check...

thanks...

I had the same experience with my rebuild. Knock numbers stay very low if any at all.

So is it safe to boost like this or shall I change the knock sensor?

The knock value on the PFC has no real meaning to it.

I changed my knock sensor wondering the same thing, it didn't make a difference. I did lots of dataloging and boosting and its all good, it works it just doesn't show nearly as much knock when it detects knock.

FSM page F-185

Lightly tap on the engine hanger with a hammer

This should show a higher reading on the PFC, it is doesn't then the knock sensor or engine harness is faulty.

My guess is something in,on,or around the motor was loose/out of tolerance and causing a rattle( not necessarily something you could hear) that was giving you a higher knock reading before. Now after the rebuild things are tight again and your reading has gone down.
