Mike, how do you find out that info?

Call Mazda Customer Support at 1-800-222-5500, then select option 4. Just give them your VIN number and then ask away! Other info I've been able to glean from them include the Port of Entry (all the cars I've asked about have come through Portland OR), the original factory configuration, warranty work done on the car, and the dealership that sold the car.

The release-to-port date was explained to me as the date the car was released for shipping, so it's probably close to or the same as the date the car was completed. The release-from-port date is the date the car cleared customs here in the US.

Mike yours looks like the old 95 unit. Not the 96+ unit Jim is talking about. The part number on yours is the same as the old 95 one Jim posted.

I can't seem to remember if my unit looks like that, but the ones in the 95s look vary similar to mine (I think). I'll have to take some pictures and post them so we can all see the difference in looks and part numbers.

I tend to agree with Jim, The newer the better.

The second picture that Jim posted was "an older picture from the top, showing the part number...". I'm taking that to mean it's a picture of his 96+ unit before he stripped the MB paint and re-painted his car. At least I hope that's the case, as I'd love to have the 96+ unit. Guess we'll just have to wait for Jim to settle this.

Mike, I really don't know. If you compare yours to mine, you'll see one minor difference. Note the wires on the pump and how yours appears to have a rubber boot on the positive wire and it enters the pump from the end. Mine has no rubber boot and mine enters through a grommet on the side of the pump.

It's a picture of the same ABS unit, the only one I've ever had, taken from the top. The first picture was taken after the Electron Blue Metallic repaint. The older picture was taken after the first repaint, when my engine bay was Funky Dunky Mystic Magic Mountain Rainbow Easter Egg (DuPont Absolute Purpleen).

The part number on top does not have the "A" or "B" suffix. It just ends in "7A0".

That's a friend's shop. My garage looks like this... but now there's a second tool cabinet in the corner where the hydraulic press and drill press were, an air compressor and cart with my milling equipment where the band saw was, the band saw is back in the right corner with the MIG welder and hydraulic press, and there's a very large milling machine sitting where the belt sander was...

you are way too neat jim. you would flip if you ever saw the squalor i work in! my garage is currently devoted to rebuilding the brakes, ignition, and entire front end on my 67 MGB. i wish i had a picture handy... there are piles of dirt on the floor, parts strewn about, half finished parts... and my tool chest haha, its most of the drawers are half open. every piece of my standard set of wrenches/sockets, not to mention every extention and hammer that i could get my hands on are on the floor! different strokes for different folks i guess ...frankly i wouldnt know where anything was otherwise (and when im inder the car im usually within arms reach of anything i own .

as for the ABS unit.... i think the 99+ models have updated ABS. if im not mistaken they switched to (i cant remember...16, or 32 bit) for the computer, the rears are activated individually (unlike ours), and i think there even may be some computer distributed braking features. i want the 99 brake setup BADLY (but it would probably be quite difficult to integrate... maybe not... who knows).

PS jim, did they just change the actual ABS unit? or is there a computer upgrade to go along with it? -heath

Well here is what the 93's look like.

Much different then 94 and up. If you zoom in or look very close, you can see that mine just ends in "7A0" also. Umm?
