well, yes, but i like to rest my elbow there, and would hate to have a ton of buttons in the way.

That is a custom modification that many folks did to accomodate the two guages in the AC panel. It's not OEM (to state the obvious).

Done right it's kinda neat but it does interfere with resting an elbow there.

FWIW,

Funny how things come back around... Many many years later.

I was actually going to buy this car while I was in Iraq, and I was searching for aftermarket mirrors and came across the old dealer add. Pretty sure it was the same one.

it is alot easier to put them where the small tray is above the stereo, assuming you have a single din unit

I think a few people have done this mod. I remember awhile back someone had a write up showing how they did it.

Also, here's a Power FC Commander flush-mounted next to the shifter opening, similar process:

Edit:

The DIY guide is long gone, but you can still kind of view it using the Internet Wayback Machine...

http://web.archive.org/web/200402051....net/dash1.htm

I'm going to copy/paste everything into a PDF file so people don't have to mess with the archived version of that site.

Also, here are a few more examples attached to this post.

Alright since the archive viewer version kind of sucks, I've reposted the guide on RotaryAddicts:

http://www.rotaryaddicts.com/?page_id=763

I've also found & contacted the guy who put the guide together to double check that he's OK with that, though he took all the photos from some Japanese magazine in the first place so I'm sure it doesn't matter either way.
