KS Vertical Radiator and Greddy FMIC

For those out there with a Fluidyne radiator mounted vertically and a Greddy 2-row FMIC I could use a little help. My situation is this. I want to keep my air conditioning installed so I have bent my condenser piping so that the condenser will mount vertically in front of the radiator. I am fabricating mounts for the Fluidyne so I can mount it as far back as the cooling fans will allow and I will be fabricating duct work to force the available air through the condenser and radiator. I have read Damion's posts and any other I can find, I just haven't found the answer to my question so if any of you can help it would be much appreciated.

Here is my question; In order to mount the radiator vertically and move it as far forward as I see in most of the pictures posted on this site, it has to just about sit on the under tray to allow clearance for the piping from the IC to the intake. It just doesn't look right and doesn't really leave much room for the lower radiator hose to clear the under tray. Is this just the way it has to be or am I missing something? I realize I can tilt the radiator to solve the problem, but I want to do the AST removal in order to accommodate a cold air intake duct for my turbo were the overflow bottle is now. Any input out there from someone who has done something similar would be much appreciated. Thanks RD

There is no room to move the radiator forward with the Greddy FMIC. The intercooler piping wraps around the radiator and is a very tight fit already.

Thanks for the reply Jason; I hope business is going ok for you in this tough economy. I would imagine you guys have done vertical mounted Fluidyne radiators with Greddy FMIC a time or two. Does the bottom of the radiator have to rest on the under-tray or do you move it back toward the engine to create clearance? Maybe a better question for anybody out there is how much clearance do I need to have between the under-tray and the bottom of the radiator to get the hoses positioned from engine to radiator? I suppose that will dictate how far toward the engine bay I have to go. Understand that I am trying to fit this without the engine installed.

Thanks again Jason, please say hello to Zavier for me, when he gets back from the golf course!! RD

There is a water tube that comes with the fmic kit that lets you cut the lower hose in half and change the angle of it so that the lower hose will fit when the radiator stands vertically.

download the instructions from greddy and you'll see what i'm talking about, look on page 11 & 12 of the PDF file

GREDDY FMIC

attachment below shows you where to cut the hose

Cool

Thanks for the post. I have downloaded the info from Greddy already. They don't have you mount the radiator vertically; at least I don't think they do. They just move the bottom of the radiator forward with some mounting brackets and decreases the angle from the stock position. I bought my FMIC from Fritz used and unfortunately it did not come with any mounting brackets so I'm not completely sure, but I believe that is the way it reads. I think my problem is I am trying to mount the FMIC and figure out the piping clearances with out the engine being in place or even having the hood on the car and it just isn't going to work that way. I am going to have to wait until I get the engine back in and then figure everything out. I have been waiting on my turbo for about 7 weeks now. I was hoping I could get some other stuff done so when A-Spec does finally get the thing to me it would not take so long to get everything else done. Oh well, I guess if you want to own on of these cars you need to develop a lot of patience. RD

Here is a pic I took of how the radiator is mounted with the Greddy kit.

Here is another of the top and the routing of the piping.

Thanks again Jason. I notice in the picture the AST is still being used. Could it be eliminated with the angle of the radiator or is there too much of an angle? I want to create a cold air intake where the AST overflow bottle is now if the step up will allow it's removal. RD

You can eliminate the AST, buts its a pain to burp the system without one. I dont see a way to make a cold air intake unless you have removed the stock headlights and are routing that way. Cold air intake is overrated, especially with a single turbo setup. I probably wouldnt worry about that.
