vented hood help with heatsoak?

when my car sits after driving it, espically slow for a while, it get hot - like 100+ C. when I start up my car it revs up & down between 2000 & 3000 rpm. after starting the car the temp starts to drop right away, reaching a manageable 90 C after just a few min.

so, the question is:
would a vented hood help eliminate heat soak after the car is shut down?

Um, Okay. But yes a vented hood should help with heat soak. Which hood works the best??? Hmm, thats a good question. The Scoot is wild the Mazdaspeed is not.
I like the Border hood myself.
There are tons of others as well.

My vented hood has reduced my underhood temps dramatically, especially when at an idle. Whenever I cut the car off I can feel the heat pouring out of the vents.

94 touring - have you eer gauged how fast your car cools down after you shut off the engine?

Well not really, I don't have any numbers showing before or after. On a hot day after I park the car, if I were to lift the hood, it is surprisingly cooler than before the vented hood.

Just run without any hood, its cheaper and works better.

Yes, if you are using a SMIC. There is no place for the heat to escape without a vented hood and that is the drawback of the SMIC.

I like the fastpac vented hood myself. Its not very wild and crazy and keeps the lines of the car intact.

I know i've posted this several times, but since DELTA_rotary likes the fastpac, here is my car with that hood.

I agree, I like the way it vents look and they are big. But it looks a lil boxy or home made while the mazdaspeed one flows better with the lines of the hood and the car.

I'm not sure about heat soak because I have FMIC, but I did notice that my water temps dropped 2 degrees celsius from 81 to 79....that's so low that the thermostat wasn't even opening up!...

...I read somewhere on the forum that the scoot FD was dyno'd with water temps at 80 and 90 degrees respectively. With the 90 degree temps, they actually saw HP increase over the 80 degree temps....

...so Now I run at 92 celsius

my normal operating temps very rarely fluxuate from 88 to 92 C, so I think I am fine there. I just want to avoid the increased heat I get when I stop & park for a bit.

On a sorta related note: I am now going to do the fan switch mod - will that run down my battery a lot if I run my fans for say 10 to 15 min after the motor is shut off? I am using a smaller sized Miata battery if that makes any impact....

My engine seemed to cool alot faster after I put the MAZDASPEED hood on. My IC pipes never get hot now, Not even the turbo side.
It's to late for me though. My coolant seals went out anyway. Bodyshop .start and stop start and stop crap killed my engine after 2 months of it.
