Yes, I have searched. Tried both "eBay pulley" (with no results) and "eBay parts" (with nothing current or related to what I'm looking for). It's strange that I can't find any decent results...I know these questions come up every now and then but it seems like no one ever has any 1st hand experience.

Anyway, I was just browsing though the eBay "FD3S" search results and a lot of parts came up that looked to be very inexpensive. Now, I'm definitely one to agree with the phrase, "you get what you pay for" but there are always exceptions to the rule.

There are a few different parts that I was wondering if anyone had 1st hand experience with.

FD3S Water-pump & Alternator Pulley Kit

There appear to be two different kits, one for $25 (without belt) and one for $60 (with belt). Both appear to have the same pulleys. Who has experience with either of these kits? How do they compare to the more expensive GReddy or Pettit Racing kits?

Once again it looks like there are two different "kits" for sale. One for about $50 and another for about $100, and once again they appear to be about the same kit. Who uses, or has used, one of these kits on their car? How is the fit? What about the O2 sensor bung? How about the overall quality?

Now here is one that I have personal experience with. These kits go for around $50 on eBay and are pretty straight forward. They will work with the stock intake, some aftermarket intakes, or can be used to build a home-made intake setup. I purchased as set of these for my previous FD and used them with the M2 airbox. I must say, The pipes themselves are very nice, but DO NOT USE THE COUPLINGS! The couplings melt/split within the first few hours of use. If you're just looking for the polished pipes, this is a pretty good deal.

So, any one have 1st hand experience with the pulley kit or the down-pipe kit?

The downpipes are pretty so-so, a lot of people have had problems with them lining up to the stock cat. Can't speak on the pulleys.

 

The pulleys are supposed to be the same only reason I would buy them is if I didn't want the Greddy blue. I think Ebay is like Walmart slowly killing world economies.

The downpipe some people have en fit great other peoples don't fit at all.

I was actually looking at ebay and I saw this 29.99$ bumper on there and reading the description I found it kind of funny.

Also they show that obviously they aren't making the bodykit, so how does it cost 30$ to have something made in China shipped here and make a profit on it?

I hate ebay just hate it, although ShineAuto is also found on eBay....

 

Buyer beware on ebay vendor fabricated parts. Most of them are of poor quality - both materials and fitment.

Those intake pipes will not fit any air box. I tried on both the stock and M2 airbox. All of the board vendors that sell the hard intake pipes have the same fitment issue on the primary turbo inlet.

 

With the Ebay stuff, you get what you pay for. Simple parts are usually OK, but more complicated parts are a definite no-no.

Ebay downpipes and midpipes may or may not fit well - they're totally pot luck. Believe it or not, there's a LOT of precision required for a good fit on exhaust parts, and it's easy to get the angle of a flange off a few degrees which screws up the whole fit of the system. A cheapie Ebay midpipe I got for experimentation cocked the exhaust upwards, making the cat-back bump the subframe while driving.

The intake pipes are also pot luck - I got a set once that was SUPER thin, they bent way easily. The couplers, as stated, are bigtime garbage. That's partially what prompted me to work with Fighter's Garage to develop an intake - it's thick-wall aluminum piping, bead rolled ends, quality couplers, etc.

I have no experience with the pullies. I can see fit being an issue if they're off one way or the other, though. I don't think I'd trust them.

did you install them yourself? they fit fine? no problems? what size belt are you running? also are you using the smog/air pump?

ummmm well that's strange because i used the eBay Bomz intake pipes with the M2 airbox, as pictured in the original post:

i have the intake hard pipes on the apexi dual intake and have had no problems with them

 

The downpipe I got from ebay is good quality materials and welding wise. The turbo to downpipe flange is good and the curves are good, but other than the turbo to downpipe flange all of the other flanges are warped. If you going to cut the downpipe up to add HF cats than the ebay downpipe is a good choice, otherwise its not.

 

I have that pulley kit. 31" belt won't work (tha'ts what Pettit has pictured with their kit). 30" should work but haven't tried it yet. I am using a 29" Gates belt (28 & 3/4") with stock sized pulleys and just short enough. With a true size you might be able to fit 28" but having to remove the alt pulley to mount it. Haven't tried it yet.

 

I have that pulley kist as well. Actually rx7.com sells them. I went to order my Greddy ones and The man himself Ari told me they were identical. Weight and looks wise except these just dont have the Greddy name. So i bought these because they were way cheaper then the Greddy ones.

 

I have the pulleys too, work great.

I think my belt is around 800mm long, not sure.

 

I have the ebay intake.

Just make sure to check the welds inside the piping.. You don't want any of it falling of and getting in..

 

I have one of the downpipes and the fitment is perfect. I did a short write-up of it, but since the search isn't working I can't link to it.

i was just about to order the greddy kit when i saw this. i picked up a set of the same pulleys with a belt for $65 shipped - half the price of the greddy kit.

i'll be removing my air-pump, installing these, and the efini Y pipe next week.




now, what about the eBay short shifters? i had a B&M short shifter in the past - the ebay short shifters look exactly the same. not exactly a power adder...but i do like the shorter throw better for driving.

anyone have an ebay short throw? thoughts on that?

i've heard some people complain about the shifter rattling and then others say theres has never made any noise since they purchased it.
it is def shorter throw.
so if you buy cheap you get what you get some good some close.

 

There's a wealth of information on shifter rattle. On some cars it can't be avoided. One of the big rotary players did a test with several cars, some rattled some didn't.

 

It's kind of funny you posted those items, because I'm running pretty much all of them on my FD right now.

I have the pulley kit (I didn't install the alternator pulley, just the water pump) and the downpipe, and I also have the intake pipes with aftermarket filters. All of them fit just fine.

The downpipe is a tight fit, but it DOES fit. You just have to be creative to get it in and out with the engine in the car.

I wouldn't run them.....in my experience, they rattle, the shifter has some play, and they don't go into gear in a positive manner. The B&M is a much nicer quality piece----you'll know where the extra money went, that's for sure.
