vacuum hose help

i was putting my UIM back on today when i broke a nipple off of a solenoid. im pretty sure its the double throttle solenoid (see pic below). if it is, could i just cap the nipple and the actuator on the UIM that it plugged into to disable it, or do i have to take it all apart again and plug up the solenoid where the nipple broke off?

Looks like the purge control soilnoid. Its for emissions. It is connected to the charcoal canister and periodically vents fuel vapors into the intake manifold to prevent gas smell from the engine bay. You don't really need it if you can deal with the gas smell. You could leave it open untill you find a replacement. I should have an extra one, pm me.

The double throttle doesn't have a check valve. I believe you're pointing to the purge control valve (letter K on the vacuum line diagram). I have never messed around with it, but remember hearing that the car will wreak of gas if you don't retain it. Again, I'm not speaking from experience so I suggest you look into it yourself before making a decision.

Try using a hair drier to heat up the hose ends before putting them on. The heat makes the hoses more flexible and the solenoids less brittle.

Good luck with the rest of the project
