Vacume Hose Job? Is it possible?

To do ALL the hoses by yourself in your garage with every tool possible? I feel very overwhelmed by this but since im getting 10lbs of vacume I see it as a must. Has anyone done this? Time? Difficulty? Chances of messing up? I already got the Vacuum Hose Diagram.

Lots of people have done it, so yeah.

or you could go Non-Sequential and your Vacuum Hose job will be real quick.

*note: I'm not Non-Seq... yet.

It's calling your name

The biggest problem you will probably have is broken solenoids. When removing hoses from the solenoids, not only may the hoses be seized up on the solenoids, but it will be a bitch to remove. If you force it, you may end up breaking the nipple off of a $100 solenoid. Your best bet is to slice the side of the hose with a sharp blade and slowly pry it off the solenoid.

And since this sounds like unfamiliar territory for you, I'd suggest taking lots of pics of "how things went together" at various stages of removal.. You won't think much of it when you pull parts off, but when you go to reassemble, you'll appreciate the reference you have.

It's very feasible to do. It was the second bit of maintenance I did to the car after I got it because I was having boost problems. It took me about a two weeks including disassembly pulling the rack, changing hoses waiting on a new solenoid that was broken and putting it all back together. Tedious yes but I've had other projects that caused me to pull out much more hair than this one.

It will take you a week in your garage with simple hand tools.

Read EVERY past post on this, lable everything as you take it apart, take copious digital pictures and notes, TEST the solenoids (its easy) and check valves, buy a hose cutter to cut your new Duroblu SI silicone vacuum tube. Duroblu is simply the best - by far, and you don't need different diameter hoses, interior springs to prevent kinking, zip ties or adhesives.

This is one of those jobs that if you don't do it perfectly you get to do it all over again. It will make you cry.

Make sure small children are not around to hear you cuss when you break your first solenoid nipple - which, if you've done your homework - you will know CAN be repaired.

to avoid as many broken nipples as possible, slice the hose with a utility knife along the nipple, spray a little wd-40 in the slice and let it do it's magic for a minute. Peel the hose off the nipple carefully.

Don't own a 7, but have done this on other cars that were 10+ years old with rubber hoses that were rock hard and seemed like they were superglued onto the solenoid nipple like a hungry newborn....

I would say its not the most technical procedure in the world...but it is tedious and time consuming. In my experience, the second i saw that rat's nest in there, i went NS in a heartbeat and havent looked back since!
But to each his own

And if you get lost go to robrobinette.com. He has a killer "vacuum hose how to" with a large diagram and about sixty pictures of every angle.

By the way, who's chubby little hand is that holding the solinoid rack? Couldn't you afford to hire a hand model?

A week with hand tools? took herblenny and academytim less than a day, and that was including the time to find solenoids to replace the ones they destroyed

did you compression test? if your pulling 10 in/hg of vaccum and have a blown engine, a hose job aint gonna do jack! BTW: its very possible for you to do it yourself but if you screw up, you got no one to blame but yourself and it is very easy to break your 100 dollar solenoids

Alright what are these selenoids everyones talking about?? Im looking at the diagram and dont see it. Ive already taken the car apart pretty far. Except the Extension Manifold, throttle body, and elbow but they seem easy with the help of sites and what not.
Thank you every and wish me luck, I already ordered the hoses =P

Take the hood completely off the car, and jack the front up a couple of inches if you can - Your back will thank you.

I did this early this year and it took me a couple of days, but I was going slow, and broke a solenoid

The color hose diagram is a must - I blew mine up to 3 pages by 4 pages and put it on the wall next to me, then checked off each one as I did it.

If you start to get frustrated, walk away, and come back in a little while with a fresh demeanor - come to the board and vent in the lounge ( it really does help ) .. I had to leave the car a few times, nearly in tears and hands shaking from frustration.

But the satisfaction of doing it myself and the perfect boost pattern made it all worth it, not to mention the savings $$$$$$
