V8 Owners

I was wondering for those of you who swaped in a v8 into your rx7, is it insured?
i talked to my insurance agent, he said that if the engine is from different car, like most crxes out there, it will be a modified car, and the insurance wont accept it... but unless you dont tell them cause they not gonna see the engine... but if i have an accident like kill someone and they have an investigation they can say oh your car was modified and ....

anyways, i was wondering those of yuo who have different engines in your cars... how are u guys insuring it?

For the 2 or 3 FD's out there with V8's in them (why oh why?) I'm not sure if they are even on the forum. You could see what jimlab thinks about this and pm him.

I never knew modifications were a condition of insuring your car. I figured you would get screwed if the car was stolen and your insurance company thought it was stock, but that was it.

Yep, it shouldn't matter the v8 engine, do you think an insurance company or even police know what a rotary looks like anyways? Seriously I wouldn't tell the insurance company that it had a v8 motor, and I doubt anyone would ever find out. Kinda like all the domestics that use nitrous on their cars, or run other things to up performance do you think they tell their insurance companys?

I talked to my insurance company when I decided to install a V8 and all I said is that my car is modified. All they said is to keep the reciepts and if it ever does get damaged or stolen, the reciepts should be good enough. In my book engine transplant means modified

If that were true for V8s technically you couldnt put a 3 rotor in either. Try another insurance company, or better yet, dont put in a V8. Please.

When you call an insurance company to get a policy are they going to say "Can you bring it down here so we can look under the hood and make sure it's a rotary?" Probably not. Even still if you got into a bad accident and somehow they caught that you had a v8 in it I don't know if it would affect your insurance coverage in anyway. I don't think they'd say "Hey you got a v8, so you get no money for your damages"..

Same here. I actually just talked to my insurance company about it. As long as the modification is an "enchancement", it's covered (with my company).

For instance, if I purchase high performance tires, they aren't going to support that since tires are maintanence... But other stuff such as aftermarket rims, ICs, etc, are covered (providing I have the reciepts).
