ok guys, another question!

the rotary extreme monster vmount is rated at 785hp, now i only intend on around the 400hp mark... wouldnt that mean the intercooler is too big? ive heard that causes delayed boost

does anyone have experiences with this?

I apologize if I am resurrecting a dead thread, but if you are still wondering, Ben, the new owner of Rotary Extreme, is usually available to speak to from about 9 or 10 till 6 pm pacific time. He is very available to talk to in those times and spent almost an hour on the phone with me speaking about a good setup between the three. However, if you are still running twins, he suggests the regular v mount kit as that will be the most efficient with those turbos. As he says he redesigned most the kit to make it as bolt on as possible and for A/C you basically have to bend one or two lines to make it work, which shouldn't be a huge deal. I talked to him about a day or two ago and he was saying he might make a modified line available for those that are planning on keeping A/C so you don't have to bend anything. I will be getting my kit on tuesday and Ill be able to tell a little more and I was looking at all the options as you and Rotary Extreme in the end included almost all the things that Revolutions kit does for 2000 cheaper, obviously a different setup but still the basic parts minus a new A/C condensor.

But either way, Ben is a stand up guy and will answer all your questions you have and I am not sure if you were in the GB that just ended, but he should still be able to give you some insight into what route to go as far as your goals and the setup you will be going with to acheive that goal.

Is Rotary Extreme still open for business? I know you can buy the IC at Rx7store.

I recently installed the GReddy VMIC kit (99' Y-pipe). The kit is designed for a JDM car so it might suits your application better. It comes with all the intake pipes, filters, water rail, hardware etc.. Pretty straightforward installation. The larger IC requires relocating battery to the rear storage bin. My car is USDM so I also had to twist the AC Line a bit. I believe it's not needed on an RHD car.

That’s looks really good and clean. I’m leaning towards the CX racing Vmount because I’m single turbo.

what battery did you use? I couldn’t see it in the picture.

I am running a 51R in the rear bin. It's about 1 inch too tall for the lid to close perfectly. Will switch to a smaller unit soon

BTW GReddy has this kit for single turbo too. It's 500$ less expensive without intake and turbo outlet. Here's where I got mine:

Ahh it makes sense! As far as the Greddy IC is just out of my budget right now, I’ve spent over $8,000 and counting on going rebuild and single turbo. So I’m gonna have to settle for a cheaper version now. Unless I find something in the classifieds. I’m new to the forum so I still don’t access to the classifieds. Soon enough. Thabks for the info!.

Hi MontegoRx7FD,

You have 11 posts now and you should be able to see classifieds for parts. Complete VMIC kits are hard to find on forum classifieds because it's really extensive work to pull LITERALLY EVERYTHING out, let alone the fact that VMIC is where people usually end up with. Defined Autoworks has a good kit that many people are familiar with. There's really no 'better cooling performance' myth into the IC & Rad stuff. Proper ducting with reasonably sized core in right location and you will be all set Some kits are more pricy maybe just because of their brand, direct installation and stuff. CX could be a smart choice

Take the advice from someone who went another way, buy the Greddy kit and make your life easy. Everything you need is included and everything fits. Yes, it's possible to have an effective "cost friendly" V-mount setup like I went with but it's a PITA to get the parts to fit and line up how you want them to if you don't have a shop and plethora of tools handy.

Cool guys, thank you for the advice. I’m pretty handy with tools and fabbing up stuff. I think I’ll try my luck with the CX racing set up. I’ve seen plenty of cats with them and they seem to hold up pretty good. It’s a weekend car and sometimes track. So I don’t need anything crazy.

thanks for helping a brother out.

diving into the classifieds now!!!!!

If you are handy and fabbing stuff up, i think you can put together a decent VMIC setup for like $750

See post 28 here: https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...1106118/page2/

I pretty much did the same thing and you can see pics here: https://www.rx7club.com/build-thread...1105189/page3/ VMIC stuff starts on post 58

Price and parts that Cartmill used
$160 "vmic style" FD radiator (ebay)
$150 SMIC generic ebay (~$75 used on rx7club, johnny actually gave me his spare one
$300 CX racing cold air intake (aluminum cheap copy of the M2 CF intake, cxracing.com) -Optional
$90 K&N intakes for M2 intake (amazon, K&N #RD-0720)
^this cold-air-intake could be done much differently/cheaper, as I did on the MB

Anyone know if Revolution are still making their V-mount kit?
I can't find it on their website, or on RHDJapan... I was told they use(d) an ARC core.

Anyone else have comments on the different options available? I'm in asia so I save on shipping for the japanese brands. ;-)
- Revolution
- Knight-Sports
- RE-Amemiya
- Greddy/Trust
- HKS (I've heard very bad things about this - having to jimmy rig a lot to get it to work)

On the RS-Pantera website they give this commentary:
"Other V system recommended
・ Trust (highly complete because it came out last, with a radiator)
・ Revolution (The cooling fan setting for air conditioner makes you cry.)
-Night sports (best for boost up?)
It is possible to deal with specials during the above period. Please contact us.

◆ Processing and parts required separately
・ Resetting of CPU
・ Pressure regulator according to the required horsepower
・ Enhanced fuel pump
・ Racing plug
・ Strengthening clutch
・ Replacement of battery or small size battery ※ Included in the price.
-Air cleaning, racing suction kit or Trust Air Ink kit processing is required.

When installing the intercooler kit, turbo kit, etc. in our shop, we are working making full use of various know-hows making use of years of experience.
Sometimes processing and additional work, of course, sometimes we do not use the manufacturer's parts.
In the V system with a large number of parts, we are trying to prevent or simplify the contact of each part so that customers can enjoy longer and trouble-free.
"
(Translated with google translate)

Funnily enough, the RS Pantera go-to kit is HKS......

I have the HKS and i'll tell you why.

It has a huge core.

It's very complete, to include custom a/c lines, battery relocation & AST bracket (to keep under hood), a/c condenser mounting points, hose for power steering cooler delete.

It uses the factory or factory style radiator. This is both good and bad. The piping to use the factory radiator was the biggest pain of the install. But when the day comes that a rock goes through it, I can order up another factory fitment koyo for $2-$300 vs $1,000+ for a greddy/trust special radiator or whatever for the other kits. That was a big motivator for me.

It was also quite a bit cheaper than the other options.

Fair enough! How long have you had the kit on? Did you keep the battery under the hood?
The core does look biggest on the HKS kit.

My friend is in the middle of installing his, and he said a lot of parts didn't line up/fit properly. He said the quality of the individual parts was high, just fitment was a huge issue.

As an example he said the PS hard pipe needs to be cut and rigged with a hose (provided), and that the radiator fans were almost touching the ground -- so close that he had to buy new, lower profile fans.

Core sizes:
HKS
600 * 255 * 103
(I wonder if that includes the end-tanks, which the other two don't)

Blitz
490 * 284 *102

Greddy
400 * 166 * 100

Anyone have the Knight Sports or Revolution IC size?

Ive had it on since about February. I did keep the battery under the hood.

The PS line is intentional, there's not room for that metal line/cooler with the kit. You're removing a hard line that is the ps cooler and just joining it together with the rubber hose. There was no cutting that I remember. You could do something else if you wanted but its working fine for me.

The radiator fans are indeed low but i've only dragged them once, lightly. Been over lots of speed bumps and my driveway has a hump. You can check my build thread to see my ride height. Im low but not super low, IMO.

You have to do some juggling to get stuff together, its a tight fit. It was pretty time consuming. But it all works. I've probably put 2k miles on the car since the install, including an 8hr round trip without issue.

Thanks, I just read through the thread.
Those fans hang LOW... with the height I intend to be at, that's a deal breaker.

Leaning toward the Knight Sports since it allows me to keep the battery in the hood... not sure if that's a good enough reason to forego the Greddy though, which supposedly fits up the best.

I have the RX7 store v-mount on one of my FDs and the Greddy v-mount on my other FD. The RX7 store kit is not even on the same planet. The greddy kit is awesome. High quality and fits like OEM, highly recommend it.

As far as the battery, mine is relocated on both FDs, but I have seen pictures of people fitting a small battery with the greddy kit. I'd look into that if you dont want to relocate it.

Thank you for the amazing feedback!! This goes a long way in helping me decide.

When did you buy/install the greddy kit?

Has your research uncovered anything about the R-Magic or Knight-Sports kits? Those are the other two under consideration.

Anyone else have input on their V Mount kit?

You can find a Knight Sports install write-up from back in the day here.

As stated above, nothing is plug-and-play with v-mounts - even with the most expensive kits. Lots of custom work with the radiators, AC and power steering systems. And ducting.

Holy cow that install looks/sounds horrible.
Do you know what year that was done and if Knight sports may have adjusted any of it??
Makes me lean further toward the Greddy kit...

I installed this in 2011 or so.

I thought it was a reasonably straightforward install - apart from the AC lines. These are always going to be an issue with a MANA system because (to the best of my knowledge) the kits that include AC lines (Greddy, HKS) are designed for Denso systems only. Not sure about AC with the Rotary Extreme kit (but didn't they go out of business a decade ago?).

The nice thing about this kit is that there is no endless dicking around with adjusting positioning and the like. The included brackets (which mount to stock attachment points) position all the components rigidly.

As far as I know, no system comes with proper ducting and since the radiator will usually sit lower some dicking around with the undertray will be needed.
