Using a Boost Controller w/ 99 Spec Twins?
I know you have to eliminate the pills in order to use a boost controller, but my 99 spec twins don't have pills in the hoses. They appear to be inside the nipples on the compressor housing. How do I remove the pills from the nipples?

mazda just drilled the holes in the nipples the size of the pills so in order to allow full flow to the boost cont. you will have to drill the nipple I ended over sizing it a good amount.

Yeah, drilling out the nipples on the actuators would be the way to go. That shouldn't be that hard - you might have to remove the actuator from the car to properly do it, but that shouldn't be a biggie.

I had to remove the airbox to gain access for my drill.
I coated a #20 drill bit with thick grease & using slow speed, drilled out the nipple.
The grease will retain the majority of the metal chips. You can finish up by using a vacuum cleaner on the nipple & suck any remaining chips.

The turbos haven't been installed yet, so I won't have issues with gaining access. I just don't want to drill into something and F it up. And also, the pills are not at the ends of the nipples, they are at the base where it attaches to the tube going into the compressor housing. I hope this won't be an issue.
Anyone with 99 spec turbos who had to drill them out? I guess I could just PM Tim Benton.

Worst comes to worst you can mark the compresso housings and drill them from the backside. They are only pressed in and with a little wiggleing the tubing can be removed. Then drill out and push them back in using a bearing locker. Many different ways to do it just depends on what your capable of (tools amd press's)

Mine were the same way(the tube itself was drilled with the oem restrictor size...no pills) like i said just drill the tube over size so you don't have to worry about doing it on the car later, worst case if you over size it to much you will have to put a MBC in line.

Don,
I'm using my 99 spec twins with the PFC stock boost control and it works fine. If with the Greddy boost controller, you replace the lines that would normally have the pills in it in the 93-95 turbo control system, then yes, you'd need to do like sereneseven posted just above and drill it out to the width of the opening on your old stockers when you take them off.

HDP,
can you take a pic of where the pills are?
I have the Profec B and 99 specs and seem to be able to control the boost without much problems.
Off the turbos run around 7lbs. On I run almost 1 bar.
I am troubleshooting some leaks but everything else seems fine. When I just had the PFC control boost the car felt exactly the same as with the Profec hooked up.

Don,
You get a new set of turbos too? Mine were nice and shiny when I get them from Jesse a couple of years ago, 0 mile 99 turbos. I bought the apexi boost controller to add to the PFC but haven't gotten around to installing it. Just looking at the picture, I wonder how the brass cyclinder piece connects to the turbo housing? If it comes out easy from both turbos, you could just switch those. Just a guess and I should know by now that nothings easy on these cars.

Drilling the restrictor out is easy. I did it on the car, but it really helped that I had a Dremel with the flex attachment. I couldn't fit my drill in that spot. Coat the bit with axle grease.
I vaguely remember that tube being a compression fit into the housing, and I think there may be a snap ring.

When I ordered my '99s from the rx7 store I asked them to drill out the nipple restrictors before shipping. They did a fine job at no additional cost. I know this may not help you but offer up the info for those who may order a set in the future.
With Damons man boost setup installed the turbos boost perfectly.
