used rx-7
i was wondering where would be the best place to get a decent mialage third generation rx-7? for cheap? it will be my first rx-7 (well first car ever) and i was planning to convert it to a 99 spec efini. so wheres a good place to get a decent used rx-7?

first off, i would not recomend you to have this as your first car...it needs a ton of attention, money, work, etc.
second, if youre looking to get a cheap deal on a 7, youre probably asking for trouble. most rx7's that go for low cash probably have something thats not operating correctly, if not everything. you want to find something that has been treated well, even if you have to spend a little more...especially if youre looking for something that has low miles. and if you want to convert it to 99spec, thats more money you have to invest. i would want to put that money towards reliability mods...
do some searching...read the newbie threads and then read more, there is a ton of info on these cars.
check the classifieds section if you still cant get the seven out of your head

If you've got all the money need to convert one to 99 spec Efini....why not just import one and have the real thing ?? ? ?

Unless you are referring to a long block w/ 99 spec turbos, etc. the engines are the same thing as their US counterparts. You will be paying $12,000+ for a running third gen, but it looks like you need to read up on them a lot before considering to buy one. This is definitely not a good car as a first car. If you really wan't a RX7 maybe a good reliable N/A FC is the car for you, they are quick enough and you will learn how to handle a rwd sports car. Another plus is that they are cheaper and are easier to find.

This thread is ridiculous. I am not going to waste my time typing any more than this.
Murphy, this is the best advice I can give you: go buy a 1990-91 Prelude as your first car.

I just blasted you in another thread too, you may want to poke around a bit so that you can call me an ***^2.
Buy an FD, and I will bet you one month's pay that within 30 days you will have crashed it.

My SN is CheesePowder because I couldn't think of a name when I was signing up and there happened to be a box of Mac & Cheese in front of me.
Is your name murphyefini as in "Murphy's law" + Efini? Or is your name Murphy?
Not trying to make fun of you. That was just the first thing I thought of when I read the SN.

I bought my FD when I was 21 and almost crashed it the first night I owned it, and it was my third car and I had been driving for 4 years.
How old are you? You already said it was going to be your first car. Aside from your potentially dying in the FD, you won't be able to afford the maintenance, gas and insurance on a typical teenager's budget. I'm just trying to save you and the poor 3rd Gen RX-7 a world of pain, my man.

Hey, why are you being so hard on this guy? He's the genius we've been waiting for. The promised FD Messiah. He could get an Efini model for $9,000 (+ only $1,500 shipping) and he turned it down. He obviously knows more than fools like us. We should stop dissing him and listen to his wisdom. "What's that, Mr. efini? Yes, we want fries with that."

I'm about to get a FD... just waiting on a good R1/R2 and saving up for a down payment so I can get a smaller loan.
Yeah, its on par with a SRT-4 stock in terms of power and quarter mile runs, but it also has LEGENDARY handling, balance, driver-car communication, great brakes, and responiveness.
Is it REALLY that dangerous to a newbie? Obviously its not front drive and it can potentially oversteer, but it also has ABS and isnt shittily set up. Then again, I cut my teeth on FF cars myself, then moved up to a nicely overpowered camaro (for its bald *** rear tires) including driving IN THE SLEET on said tires, so I'm a bit more comfy driving a FD (stock, for the time being ) with some decent tires on it.
Until I save up a nice little nest egg incase I break something that requires a new engine or set of turbos, I'm just gonna do reliability mods. If the kids working full time and has help with insurance from his folks (part of the family plan saves BIG $$$ especially if you know how to work the system a little, heh heh), and reads up enough to know how to take care of it, how hard would it really be?

... I meant quartermile ETs and speeds, ugh. Thats a single dimension of the cars performance. I guess youre going to be mad when I say SRT-4s also have four wheels and 3 pedals, just like mot FDs, OH NO! FLAY ME BEFORE THE CAR GODS!
An SRT-4 would probably be a better match for a total newbie to performance cars because of the fact that its front drive, torquey (not that stock twins dont get up and go early on), and cheap. FDs are a bit more demanding, but also have higher capabilities BONE stock, especially with regards to handling.
The SRT-4 is front drive, so joe ricer would have to recover from understeer instead of oversteer. Besdies, which would you rather see crashed? A SRT-4, or one of the dwindling numbers of FD RX-7s? Think about that man. What would you rather see ruined?
Oh, and its Nihilanthic

An FD as your first car? Hell, my first car was an 89 Prelude. But to get a FD as your first car, and not really know alot abut them is asking for trouble. Seriously, you really should reconsider this as your first car and look somewhere else. And stop being ignorant, they know a shitload more than you do.
