UPDATE on air vent problem! need help a.s.a.p.

For those who missed the other thread, i was experiencing problems with the air vents in the cockpit. It seemed that with the fans on, the air wasn't coming out of the vents at all, even on the number '4' setting, although i could hear the fan going.

Well on Friday i drove the car from my old home in NY to Charlotte N.C.. I had just left my house in NY when about 10 minutes into the ride, my Check engine light comes on. So i freak out and pull over. I check all fluids and they all come up perfect ( just changed them all, and car only has 40,120 miles on it at this point). So i pop the fuel door and check to make sure the fuel cap is properly secured. Thats a go. So i get back in the car, and start it up. No check engine light. I turn on the fans just for ***** and grins, and i hear a loud CLUNK and then i see stuff come out from the floor vents. The pink stuff was insulation, which mice use to make a nest or bedding. Then i hear the fan blades turning against something with a audible thump everytime the fan blade hits it. Turns out it's a dead fuggin mouse in my vents where the fan blades are
Sure enough, right after that i could smell dead animal coming from the vents.

Now my question is, how can i get at the area where the mouse is? Where is it located? If someone could detail how to get to the vent/fan area, that would be great. I have access to most common tools, and would prefer to do the work myself to save a little cash.

Time is of the essence as the new place i moved into won't have a garage available for 8 more days, so the car is sitting in the hot Charlotte, North Carolina sun, no doubt stinking up the inside of my car. please help!

Isn't that like one of those scent packets they sell at carwashes?

If you can hear the fan blades hitting the corpse, you'll have to tear into the fan assembly and ducting underneath the glove box area. Good luck.

Yuck. Well, I guess it was worse for the mouse than for you. Getting to the blower should be detailed in the factory manual. Its been awhile since I looked at it, but I believe the Mitchell's manual at iluvmyrx7.com also has an exploded view of the dash, etc. Good luck.

Ok i just looked at the Mitchells manual for the FD. I have located the blower motor. According to the maual, it says i have to take the entire dash apart to get to it?! WTF is this? There's got to be a easier way to get at this thing.

On the few ac/heaters I have worked on (2 GMs and a Talon), I had to take out the whole freakin' dash. NOT FUN. I can't imagine the 7 will be any better. You will save an assload (metric measurement ) if you do it yourself. Most places charge ridiculous labor for this kind of thing...even more than usual! Might be worth checking around, though.

hey may be your insurance will cover it. I have a friend with a Eclipse that had a short and nobody could firgure it out. Well we search and search and we got the same smell you got (yes it stinks) and found a dead mouse behind the dash. Well he took the car to the dealer to get it fix and they will not pay for it (warranty would not cover) so he contact the insurance company and they covered everything.

Just got off the phone with insurance. They said they will not cover the dead animal (no suprise there). The inside of the car smells awful. I have to get this animal out of here pronto. I have all day to rip this thing out, but i'm very nervous about doing this. I have never ripped an entire dash out before and i have the feeling that if i do, it's not going to go back together correctly. I am NOT happy about this.

The dash will need to come out the blower is on the far right. First pull to vent tubes from the bottom and try to run a vacuum cleaner hose in there . My mechanic had his dash out last week to repair a wire. While in there he reran the wires to the aftermarket things installed and vacuum line to the boost control unit . He also did the water temp gauge mod ,thanks to Jeff 48 . He can walk you through it if you need .

Where exactly are the vent tubes? I've poked around underneath there and i have no idea what you are talking about. If i can avoid pulling the dash, i'd like to. Also, how can i get in touch with Jeff48? I'd love for someone to walk me through this as i'm very nervous when it comes to dash/electrical related items. Besides, if i pull the dash, that means i have to pull the radio, and i don't have the security code to reinstall the radio, nor do i know what is even involved in entering this security code. Dude, this entire week has been a nightmare, and this is the icing on the cake
