Unorthodox Main Pulley and Timing Ring
Is it necessary/desireable to use the stock timing ring with the UR main pulley?
Unorthodox website says yes but I have fould nothing in this forum to indicate folks are installing it.

How is the motor going to tell the ECU what to do with out the ring in place ? What system are you going with ? The stock Ecu and the much used PFC will need the ring in the correct position for the car to run .The bolt pattern will only let you put it on one way . I think you need the ring unless you have a new system or you are using a 1st or 2 nd gen motor .

I will certainly install the timing ring but I must plead total ignorance as to how a sensor in the front plate reads crank position via this ring. The ring appears to be uniform with the exception of one small tab. In the absence of a photosensor how does this work?
The two crank angle sensors read the spokes and the small tab , the ECU uses the info to inject fuel and fire the coils at the correct time .That is a simple way to say it .If you want to know more than do some reading .If you want the car to run than put the trigger wheel in place and go for a ride .

Can you recommend reading reference material? I'm very curious as to how the crank angle sensors recognize the spoke and tab positions. I can certainly see how an external timing light could be used but I am at a loss as how the crank angle sensor might function relative to this wheel.
By looks of it, you don't know much about rotaries..
Don't get Unorthodox main pulley. Unless you have it installed by someone with rotary engine building experience. Stock main pulley will be fine!
