Uneven Face/Foot Heat

Due to a cold snap in Massachusetts, I've uncovered something that I haven't ever experienced before. When I turn the heat on to face+foot, I get barely warm air out of the top vents and roasting hot air out of the foot vent. Feet only or windshield yields very hot air, while face only results in much warmer, although not as hot air.

Anyone have any ideas on this? I'm pretty sure I'm not imagining this.

Your airbox's "flappers" are probably screwed up. I recently restored mine since I had the dash out. I used some adhesive-backed neoprene foam that I bought of eBay awhile back.

Also did the blower box's flappers:

Mazda (and other Japanese manufacturers) did studies that showed warm air on the face leads to drowsiness so they deliberately designed the system this way.
