No heat. Any ideas?

I noticed today that I am getting no heat when I turn on the heater. It blows, but its cold air that come out.

Any ideas?

At first I thoguht it was the thermostat, but I always keep a good eye on my temp gauge and it never went above normal in the 7 miles to school. Any way to check if its the thermostat without taking it out?

Any other ideas?

You live in Kansas right....

Well, the thermostat doesn't open until the car reaches 177-182 degrees F. It goes full open at 203 degrees F.

It is quite possible if you are running at a good rate of speed, that the car is going to stay below 177 degrees. Especially if it is cold where you live...like in Kansas.

I drove my car last night, and it was about 18 degrees F, and the car didn't get up to 180 degrees F until I got home and parked the car to "cool" down. I have a digital temperature gauge, so I can monitor that the thermostat is actually working.

What does everone else think?

For people that live in cold climates...how do you deal with this?

Later,
Patrick

Are you using the floor and defroster vents? Did you read your owners manual? If both of your answers are no, then make them yes ASAP. Face vents are only for cold A/C. Floor and windshield vents are only for heat.

pweizman, I don't think thats it, it was 50F this morning. I let my car warm up for about 5 minutes before I left. And the whole way to school was only about 40-50MPH. I've gotten heat on colder days while driving on the free way. Thanks for your input anyway though.

Jonski, are you sure about that? I've always been able to get bothe heat and A/c out fo my face vents.

Whatever it was it seems to have gone away. On the way to and from work I was getting heat out of my vents just like normal.

you guys think I should stress over this?

I don't think I would stress over it too much. If you want to heat up your feet, you could always put your precat back.

It also says it in the '93 RX-7 manual. Heat only comes out of floor and windshield vents for me. A/C only comes out of face vents and that vent right under the steering wheel. What is that, a crotch vent? Mazda thought of everything! Or perhaps it is still a face vent... for your G/F . I guess Mazda already knew what FD owners should expect.
