Under hood insullation, Important?

I was at a trackday today through NASA at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and after numerous laps I came in and my insullation was falling off the hood. I know that it is held on by those black inserts, but just how important is the insullation? I took it off so that It wouldn't fall down and get caught in the engine and all. Should I go out and replace this insullation or is it going to be ok? Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks!

Exactly, all that heat will make the hood alot hotter then it already is and probably bubble the paint. You can just replace it with Dynomat.

No insulation ruined my hood right where the turbos are. The heat dried out the paint so much the clear coat was peeling.
