well it helps to channel air to the radiator.. if you notice there is almost a v patern betwen the radiator and the FMIC. would be nice to have extra are channeled that way. I would prefer to have my underbelly cover.. but because of the radatior; it no longer fits..
if you have a stock setup and can fit the underbelly.. i don't see why you would want to remove it. I would put it back on if i were you.

I have the Blitz setup and I got mine to fit, you have to trim off a bunch of area around the sway bar brackets for it to work. I know the instructions for it suck, but it sort of shows the area to cut off in one of the photos.. 10 minutes with a dremel and it fit. It is definitely snug though, I usually attach the rear portion then the front.. it has a very slight bend at the bottom of the radiator it is so tight. I don't think ditching the underbelly pan is a good idea.. it seals off the bottom of the radiator. Otherwise the air will just go around the radiator and not through it.

Yeah the heat sheild is a diffrent peice all together the one they are talking about is the black plastic peice that goes from the front bumper cover to the front of the subframe by the oilpan.

The belly pan is designed not only to channel air to the radiator but also straighten out under car air turbulence at high speeds to provide better stability. Another function that is not as apparent is a splash guard, hot turbos and cold water doesn't mix well.
It is definitely a good idea to put the belly pan back on even if you have to make small trims and alterations.
