Ultimate rear-drive turbo shootout
Ultimate rear-drive turbo shootout
An australian magazine called "speed" that i picked up while i was at sema has a 10 page article where they picked what they felt were top 4 rear wheel drive, front engine turbos cars and compaired them.
The 4 cars were a fd, supra, skyline and silvia... all lightly modified.
I wish i had a scanner so i could post the whole thing but since i dont ill just type the verdict.
"Supremely capable in a no-mess, no-fuss kind of a way, the series VI Mazda rx-7 walks away on pace, and with the judges' vote. With its magnificent and singularly dominant production racing pedigree in both Australia or Japan, the rx-y is not only a showcase of Mazda technology but also one of the purest showroom racers ever to be softened for public consumption. Everywhere you look, there is evidence of this, from the rearward seating position through to the use of lightweight metals in the body and suspension. You can forgive its impractical nature and the inherent foibles of its rotary engine because it excels so well as the uncompromising driver's tool. When it comes to turbocharged front-engined, rear-drive sports cars, the RX-7 rules supreme."
the article is infinantly longer than that paragraph, but thats the main idea anyways
and it brought a smile to my face.

yeah those Aussies love rotary cars. and of course the FD RX7 is the winner hands down, thats why we all drive one
there is another Mag called "Fast Fours and Rotaries" from Australia, they always have some good articles on FDs and other cars with rotaries.

It's acvtually a pretty bad magazine. Think shitbox s13 silvias with stickers and sparkly paint jobs. Nobody here takes it seriously. Think of it as an Australian version of Turbo magazine in the US. If you guys want to see decent journalism, I'll see if I can dig up the old MOTOR magazine re-review of the FD3S.
Sadly none of the truly professional magazines ever reviewed the 99+ rx-7s.

A lot of my Japanese buddies think americans are nuts, wasting money tuning the Baa-Chans karuma (aunt, or grandma's car) ((honda)) but to each his own, with all of the idiots tuning hondas and the other makes it leaves mo Mazdas for us to own!

Hey rpm pwr,
Believe me, Americans don't view Honda civics as performance cars. We see them as cheap cars that when you put about $10,000 worth of performance mods on them, they MIGHT keep up with a vette. Personally, I'd rather just buy a used vette and call it a day. Although, I'd rather have an FD. Here in the States, true sports car enthusiasts don't give Hondas a second look.
