ugh torn on what car to get

can get a 98 gsx with a 6 bolt swap with 40k miles on it 80k on body for $10k. or 93 blue rx7 110k on body 25k on engine (supposedly not really sure haven't seen reciepts).. i'm looking for a fun car i don't mind working on it and i don't mind down time i love rx7's i love how they drive. but i'm just worried with reliability luckily i'm close to some of the best rotary shops. i don't mind an engine that only lasts 60 to 100k miles also i guess i'm just fishing for input i don't really like dsm's much but they're also tons of fun. i might autocross on weekends not much into dragging or anything street related. i think i'd enjoy an rx7 with a single turbo kit more than the dsm but what do you guys think do you hate your cars or love them? oh ya either will be my daily driver.

Both cars have their strengths and weaknesses. The rx-7 will be faster and handle better, but the motor can eb very tempermental. The dsm motors are stong, but their drivetrains arent up to task.

Get the seven ridden in a gsx before and in my humble opinion it just doesnt compare to a 7. You will be damn fast off the line but the 7 looks better and performs better and its awesome and unique. Not to mention the rotary but Im biased so get whichever you like better but I would go with the 7. Did I mention I like rx-7's.

If you have the time and money the 7 can be extemely reliable, fast, and Destroy everything out there. Mine is extremely reliable, fast, and looks better than any DSM. Just my 2 cents.

Having owned both an FD and currently a DSM (well it's a Galant VR-4 so it's not technically a DSM since it was built in Japan by Mitsubishi and is more akin to a Lancer Evo I-III, but close enough) I can say that your budget is what really should be looked at here. Insurance on the DSM will be cheaper, parts are a LOT cheaper, generally better on gas, AWD all weather capabilities (although in TX where you are it probably doesn't matter much), much cheaper to mod, and actually has a back seat although it's basically useless. The GSX won't have the looks, handling, rarity, or ultimate performance potential of the FD, but financially it's night and day difference. True the AWD drivetrain is pretty tempremental, but there are tons of parts out there to be found and it's generally easy to work on. I still miss my FD more than anything & would buy another one if I wasn't in school right now and had the financial means, but I don't miss the high costs involved to enjoy it. It sounds as though you're not toooooo worried about reliability though so if you want the overall more satisfying package then the FD would be the way to go especially if you want to occasionally auto-x it. I'd say go check them both out, test drive them, have them looked at by competent mechanics, and then decide. Either way you'll have a fun car.

A 2nd gen DSM isn't going to be a lot cheaper to modify than an FD, if your going to be doing most of the work yourself, performance costs money, I think if you wanted to get a 4g63 and an FD to 320-350whp, the FD is going to be cheaper, and if u want 400whp, the FD might cost just a bit more. If you buy used parts and do most of the work yourself, you will save a lot of money, I only have about $2000 into my FD (when i bought it it already had an ECU and downpipe) and it already put down 320RWHP, the rest of the supporting mods I am purchasing that will allow me to go further will be quite expensive, but it will take a lot of money to get a DSM fast too. If the car is going to be your daily driver, personally I would get the DSM, mod it a bit, but not do too much to it, if you have a car to drive when your car isn't running, and you have extra money to spend on your new hobby, get the RX-7.

i would pass on both. a gsx having a new engine at 80k? that doesnt seem right. the car was abused. my experience with my rx7-> not worth the money. of course i agree an rx7 is one of the ultimate JP supercars but still, i could own 2 gsx's for the money i put into the rx7.

Go RX7! AWD is so unimpressive on the HWY. You'll get a much better driving experience in the rx7 IMO.

gsx trannys are just as prone to failure as the rotary engine.......so reliability should be an issue with both !...i personally say go with the rx7...

I've owned both and I say if it's just a toy, get the 7... Much more enjoyable to drive as it peforms better and handles better, it also looks better and more unique. They're both relatively unreliable, but that really depends on what parts are on it, how it's tuned, and how it's driven.
