UDP's good or bad?
my friend and i are having an argument about underdrive pulleys, i say there bad and he says they're good. i am not familiar w/ rotoary egnines but my theory with this would make no difference. I think they're bad b/c they slow accesories, my main concern is the water pump. If your water pump is slowed down then you get less coolant flow which will result in overheating. he says that it doesn't matter so could you guys please straighten us out.

I say its a good thing although you don't really get that much hp for the money (500 bucks for ~2-5 hp). you might also wanna watch out when replacing the main pully attached to the E-shaft, I have hear of horror stories when people take it off, the bearings and washers and other stuff fall into the engine and they end up having to strip down the entire engine to realign everything.

slowing the alt will help it last longer, slowing the waterpump may stop high speed cavation(sp) which does not help cooling ,slowing the pump will let the water absorb more heat and let the radiator do its job better , more HP, not much but some ,worth having ? I would say yes for the better cooling

duboisr: Slow down water flow to let it absorb more heat? Wouldn't it be better to circulate *colder* water instead of hotter water? If anything, slowing down water flow will decrease the cooling of the engine. But with the small change of an underdrive pulley, I doubt there would be much of a difference. I don't know much about cavitation... but somehow I doubt its an issue.
I agree with helping the alternator last longer, but you're sacrificing electrical power at and around idle speed.
I think its a good mod. But $500? I wouldn't spend that much.
