The types vary between USDM and JDM. What makes a type R in JDM is different to USDM.

That looks like a 2001 model if im not mistaken and yes it will be a type rs.

post this on http://fdowners.com to get more help from us Aussies.

The S8 came with a type R and Type RS. The type RS had twin oil coolers, if its got twin oil coolers than its very likely an RS.

It should also say RS model on the drivers door sticker.

The big difference betwen Type R and RS is in the brakes. The RS has 314mm front and rear discs and the R only 294mm ( I think). The second difference is in the wheels, the RS has 17" and the R only 16". The third difference is betven suspension, the RS have some Bilstein (softer) suspension and the R have Mazda hard suspension. And there is no other difference betwene this two type of car.... They both have twin oil cooler and both produces 280bhp... and look like the same.

Here is one link....

Definately not a type RS. My ones have 17's standard as most people have mentioned and there's no way you can fit 16's onto them even if you tried due to larger brakes.

Its either a Type R, RB or RB-S at best.

Don't ever let a dealer try to sell you something that its not.

Doesnt the RS have multispoke wheels as well?

Isnt the R1 and R2 the same thing as the Type R in Japan? im pretty sure they're either the same or VERY close to being the same.

Those wheels look like the 16" rims to me.
The RS is mechanically the same as a Spirit R or RZ.
16's will not clear the brake calipers (i know, i've tried it on my RS).
If the car has 16's it's a dead give away that it's not an RS.

Have a look on the little placard in the door sill- it'll say there that it's a type-rs and mention bilstien.

Also look for twin oil coolers...

I have a 99 type-r. Mine did not come with fog lamps. That may also be a difference between the R and RS.

Okay buying it from a local dealer in Japan would cost you way more than you selecting something all by yourself from an auction in Japan.

BTW im a regular member of USS and TAA auction Japan.

The easiest way to check if its model is to ask for a photo of the sticker on the driver door seal/jam.

he isnt buying locally in japan, hes buying from Aus, so i would believe he is buying through an auctioned example.

Secondly, there is a reason why the cars at Auction are cheaper

I just found the first one on goo by coincidence. Its listed on goo as a type R. If your agent told you its a type RS, he was lying.

i also found the one your looking at, it is a type RS.

Hi,

The FD's have a 3 part exhaust, which consist of a Dump Pipe, Mid Pipe and Cat back. the Cat is actually on the Mid Pipe, I also believe Non JDM models came with an addition Cat on the Dump Pipe
