Two Coolant Drain Plugs?

Hi guys,

Quick one..

A lot of the guides out there on flushing radiators have not mentioned about the 2nd drain plug somewhere near the end of the engine oil dipstick. See attached pic:

My question is how many of you, when flushing the radiator, removes the 2nd drain plug?

<big thanks to http://robrobinette.com/ for the good works as usual>

p/s I did try searching for this but can't find any info on this topic...

When flushing the RADIATOR, never

When flushing the coolant, always.

Just flushed mine a few weeks back for a new radiator and removed both plugs. Alot of coolant drains from that engine plug.

after you drain from the engine plug how did u fill it back up?

you use the heater hose in the UIM/surge tank or u just slowly filled from radiator cap?

I've flushed mine a couple of times and didn't undo that plug. I just undid the main plug, drained what was in there. Plugged it back up, filled it with distilled H20, ran the car for 5 minutes, drained again, repeated the process untill H20 runs clear, then filled it with coolant mix... Doesn't hurt to undo both plugs though, up to you.

Is it easy to get to the second plug or is it blocked by the under tray? I know the under tray is aesy to take off but i dont have a lot of room under my car to work.

I am helping a guy replace his engine and I completely forgot about that plug. Thanks for posting this. We won't make such a big coolant mess when we get the engine out now.
