Exclamation Need a new clutch :(

Well, over the past week or so my clutch has started to slip and tonight it became really bad. So I am in the market to buy a new clutch. I am looking to spend around $500 for a new clutch.

I drive my FD daily and would like an upgraded clutch from the stock one. I want it to be able to take the pressure of racing, drifting, and all of that stuff, while at the same time I can still drive the car in rush hour traffic without it breaking my foot from the pressure.

Please post your thoughts on what clutch I should get. I am currently looking into the pineapple racing clutch that they have on RX-7Store.net. From the descriptions on that website, that clutch seems to be the most all around clutch. Though I am may be wrong, I would still like to hear everyone's thoughts and experience's before I spend $500 on a new clutch.

Thanks

Yeah you definitely DON'T want a 4 puck or 6 Puck, stick with a street strip clutch, and a good pressure plate, the better(Hrader) the pressure plate the harder it is to shift (more foot pressure required), but the more HP you can hold inside the tranny.

BTW (Exeedy is a good brand)

So the one off of ebay is a good one for what I am looking for DCrosby?

Also, how hard is it to change the clutch by yourself?

Here is what I have.

I love it. Quite a bit stiffer clutch feel, but smooth engagement and great holding power.

Everyone seems to love the ACT street/strip. I don't have
experience with it but my brother loves it on his '93.

I'll need a new one soon as well, and the ACT s/s is my current
direction.

If I'm looking to make at most 250ft/lbs of torque, what would be my best and cheapest option? Stock?

I had the ACT extreme as well and I liked it.

Changing the clutch out isn't hard if you're mechanically inclined and you have the right tools. It is very messy, and it does take a good amount of time. An impact wrench with a good amount of torque is pretty much a must.

ACT S/S here, I love it! No problems at all with holding, and pedal pressure is just like stock. Engagement is faster than stock, i.e., theres very little slip time, it's either in or its out. But I love it. You won't be disappointed.

Chalk another up for the ACT street/strip setup. The best performances clutches, in my opinion. I had the same ACT street/strip clutch on both my old cars, a '95 Probe GT, and an '89 Probe GT (turbo).

Just make sure you have it installed somewhere with experience, by someone who knows what the fukk they're doing. I guess I'm lucky that Mazcare is less than 10 minutes from my house in atlanta (marietta, actually). Not the cheapest shop, but damn sure the best.

If you want to save a bit of money, clutchcityonline.com sells the Exedy full faced organic disc clutch for $414 shipped. Exedy is the aftermarket division of Daikin clutch corporation, the company that makes OEM clutches for a lot of the Japanese car companies. Oh btw it's rated to hold 402 lb/ft so that should be more than enough for pretty much any setup.

HKS is a bitch to drive. Out of all the twin plate clutches, OS Giken is the best IMO. It engages like stock, yet holds TONS of torque.

Yet Giken as mentioned is Exeedy, and a little known fact is that ACT takes Giken clutches and modifies them and re brands them as theirs, so there's nothing wrong with Exeedy, I personally have the ACT S/S Setup, and got a good deal through SR Motorsports, but I had a chance to look at the exeedy's in my mechanics garage, and they look good, and then I had a chance to ride in one (Single Turbo) Exeedy clutch, and the 6 Puck was somewhat "abrupt" to engage, and not something I'd want in rush-hour traffic, but if you strictly run your car back and forth to the track and on it, I suppose it would work well.. (That was the purpose of this car)

Which ACT clutch should I get off of rx7-store.net? There are many different one's on there and I don't know which one to get.

Thanks

lmfao....for real. Unless ACT takes OS Giken clutches and makes them WORSE. I've driven all different types of ACT clutches....they all suck when compared to my OS.

Again, the ACT street/strip clutch has to be the perfect one for what you want. I've had it for a couple of months now and it is amazing. My car is a daily driver too, back and forth to school and Atlanta all the time. Works excellent!

Exedy makes more than one clutch. Their "cerametallic" disc is a 3-puck design, while the organic disc which is the one I was referring to is a full face and is pretty similar in behavior to any other full faced disc.
