Twin Turbo Removal Help

Hey, pretty simple question. Im trying to take my twin's out of the engine bay, and I guess im just out of patience but I cant seem to get them down through downpipe opening.

I cant get the front up enough so that its on a good angle for the rear to go down through the opening.

Would it help to remove the 2 front actuators? Any other tips would be great. Thanks guys.

I've recently done my turbo's (twice - I had gasket troubles ); I took them out upwards, I didn't drop them down through the downpipe "hole".
This was pretty easy, take the actuators off as you suggest to reduce the size of the "package". Also make sure you take the downpipe studs are out first, as these will catch & be a pain - you can still get them out but it's way simpler if they're out.
I am assuming that you've pulled out everything above the turbo's here.

Cheers, John

Damn thats rough doing it twice.

I thought about taking them out through the top, but it seemed a bit tight and I really didnt wanna mess around with the downpipe studs more then I have too.

Basically everything is removed (y pipe, both intakes, egr valve so my hands would fit down there). But if I was to take them out through the top would that mean I would also have to take off the air pump and abs heat shield? Or anything else that I might not have mentioned?

I would also recommend taking it out of the top. I've managed to do it without taking off the abs heat shield or disconnecting the actuators, but on the other hand I did take off the EGR and disconnected a hard heater hose. Also, I haven't had an airpump in the car for about 5 years so I don't really remember how much it interferes or not.

Alright, thanks. I actually considered taking off that hard heater pipe, so Ill then take that off and try and work it around the air pump.

The air pump needs to come off, but it only takes an additional 5-10 minutes to get the airpump off so it shouldn't be that much more work.

Yesss!! Got them out, and it was pretty quick too, thanks guys.

Now I can port my wastegate and get them prepped for next season. Tommorow I'm going to be ordering all new gaskets (manifold to turbo, turbo to downpipe, two oil drain gaskets, 2 efini y pipe gaskets, rear and front intake to turbo gasket, 9 in total).

Anything I might be forgetting in terms of new gaskets or parts?, or that you suggest I should also do while they are out?

Now would be a good time to change the heater hoses on the firewall.

Ahh yes, I heard good things about the copper looking anti seize. Are the heater hoses known for cracking?

Talk to Ray. I believe there is a turbo gasket kit. It may include new bolts as well. If you haven't done so already you may want to change out the lower lim gasket. Especially if it's the paper one. The turbos have to be out to replace that one so you may as well do that one too while it's out.

I would change the coolant in and return hoses to/from the turbo, I had one of those go bad on me once. Also, if you're looking for a cheaper alternative in terms of turbo to manifold gaskets and downpipe gasket, check Pineapple Racing. It's insane how expensive those gaskets are. Just those 3 (two turbo to manifold gaskets and one downpipe gasket) comes to like $200 for OEM whereas the Pineapple Racing alternative comes out to like $80 if I remember correctly.

If you're interested, you can replace your LIM to block gasket with one of these: https://www.shopatron.com/products/p....29079.0.0.0.0

if you are taking it off, i would recommend a lim blanket, since the only time you can put it on is when the turbos are off, unless your single turbo

Damn wish I knew about those gaskets, I already paid for the expensive ones.

In terms of an LIM blanket, where would I be able to get one?
