if your talking about rebuilding the stock twins i would advise against it. they are generally labelelled as non rebuildable. you can get a good used set for cheap and just install them.

as for porting the WG i dont think there is any negatives in that, so might as well do that while your there.

The bearings are often damaged permanently and make the turbos not rebuildable. Considering that you have two turbos, the odds of a good rebuild are not high.

That said, I'm not a turbo rebuild guy. Yours may well be rebuilt without issue. But personally I'd buy a set of used turbos in good shape from a reputable seller and install them first. That's usually less expensive than a rebuild kit.

The stock twins do not have bearings, rather they have bushings. I overhauled my twins myself long ago and it was very easy. Ported everything, polished that, cleaned this.....then shortly after re-installing them I went Single and have never turned back.

Contact Turbo City here http://www.turbocity.com/, if they even have them anymore. They may know where to get the kits.

Tell them you have a 1993 mazda rx7 and you want to overhaul the turbos - twin turbos = two kits ( hitachi I believe, hell it's been awhile ). Expect to pay $350 for the two kits. They will give you everything you need to freshen them up. Then you must worry about the cracks and balancing.

Just go T04s and forget about it

Last time I talked to them, they no longer carried the kits. You can always call them and get some numbers for shops who might have them.

Define 'worry'?

Where can you even get these turbos reliably balanced?

Dave
It's a sleeve bushing Dave with oil feed holes around them, best as I can remember. Made of brass. No needle or ball bearings.

Generally cracks longer that 1/2" and wider than1/8" create problems. I used to just cast weld them up and mill them back down. Turbo city is who you need to call.

That's not necessarily true.
