twin turbo question. my wastegate is crackkkedd =(

on the stock twin turbos around the wastegate is pretty much cracked. is this turbo just pretty much junk or is it possible to order that part from mazda and just replace it. worst case scenario i'll have to get another set of turbos. i'm on a budget so how much am i expecting to pay if i do have to get another set. (looking for a non-seq setup)

if it's cracked enough that it will allow exhaust gas to escape at any appreciable rate past the wastegate flapper, then it begin will lower exhaust flow to the turbos. if it is a hairline crack beginning, then you should be able to get away with it without any noticable difference.

it really doesn't matter what it looks like, if the gaskets will hold and the turbines receive all the exhaust gas they should, then they are usable.

are both wastegate ports cracked?

cost depends on opportunity, how much time you have to shop, mileage, and vendor.

i have a spare set of hot side snails that are in fair shape with minor cracking if you're interested.

Post some pics of your turbos so we can see what they look like. Hopefully its not that bad.

I have a spare set of turbos I removed from my engine. They didnt burn oil and worked fine. If you find out you need to replace that section, let me know and we'll work something out. I can port the wastegate for you as well so you can just bolt it up. I'm in Pomona, a few mins from Walnut and about 35mins from Irvine.

I weld them backtogether and port the hole open, what is the big deal .Grind a v out at the crack preheat the part and nickel weld it .The best way is to cut materal out around the complete hole and weld it back level, mill it flat and port the hole .This will not recreck for a long time .How long ? I do not know,I have not seen one crack after being done .

All of the turbos I've had are cracked at the wastegate opening. In fact, one of them had barely any cracking on the manifold face, so I was pretty disappointed to find a longer/wider crack at the wg.

All of them boosted fine. Don't worry about it.

Those aren't all that bad. The manifolds on those turbos could probably go twice as long before they leak or affect boost.

I had the same rpoblem. What I ended up doing was finding a set of factory twins that need rebuild with no cracks and just made one good pairof turbos out of 2 bad ones.

Can you post a picture of this thing? Are you talking about the gasket between the turbos and exhaust manifold (squarish gasket)?

no not that gasket. im talking about the gasket that would go right on top of the wastegate picture. it would be the one separating the two halves of the turbos.

There are metal gaskets that go between the section of the turbos. You can't buy them separately. (Well, you CAN, but they'll cost $3500 and you get a spare set of turbos with them )
