Twin turbo , Manifold swap??

quick back story I have 99 spec / RZ / twins . the N3G1 set .

But I blew an oil seal on the primary turbo all kinds of shaft play

So I bought a set of twins from a friend who said turbos had no shaft play and well yeah it has alot less shaft play then mine so I figured I'd just swap the primaries out

Unfortunately as I just cracked open the other set of twins I got from my friend . The waste gate is badly cracked .

Meanwhile My manifolds are in pretty mint condition .

can I swap the manifold on the turbos?? or is there some kind of Fancy MAgic that says I should not ?

P.S. YES I tried searching . all I get is single turbo manifolds LOL

I sort of found the how to rebuild the turbo thread . If they can do it I figured I can as well .. hopefully its hte same between the 99 spec and the OEM ones .

Now the only issues is actually seperating the turbo from the hot side . it looks pretty nice and stuck

Don't mix the 99 and fd parts. You can use the center turbine housing but the compressors and chras are different. Personally I'd get either a known good working set and use it as is, get a set of BNR stage 3s, or go single. I do have a good used set of twins with less than 40k miles if you need them.

He's a die hard twin fan. No going single for him

I have an absolute shed load of N3G1 turbo parts if you are short anything.

I currently have a set of Mazdaspeed HT12-X242's on my car installed into N3G1 exhaust housings because my mazdaspeed one has a stripped stud siezed into it. That model uses an N3C1 turbine shaft with normal forward thread.

There is a difference in the turbine shaft.

N3G1 Compressor wheel is the same but the CHRA has a bolted flange instead of a split ring.
N3G1 Compressor Cover has a nylon slieve set to 0 clearance when new
N3G1 turbine blade exducer is 1mm smaller
N3G1 turbine blade is 2mm taller (21mm from memory instead of 19mm)
N3G1 turbine blades have the same count but the design is more open, Mazda called this ultra high flow or pressure can't remember.
N3G1 turbine shaft is reverse thread

My HT12-X242 twins have larger compressor covers that require you hammer reliefs into your exhaust front pipe to fit. The X242 compressor wheel is 63mm exducer instead of 57mm and the compressor wheel is as physically large as will fit into the turbine and still have thread for the front nut to screw onto.

I believe all sealing parts (bearing seals, piston rings) are the same for N3C1 and N3G1 turbos.

Lol a lot of people say that but no one goes back after going with a proper single.

I would go single in a heart beat for a proper small single ,

But I want the spool I have with teh twins instant power all over the place . and I dont need mroe then 350 hp heck I'd be happy with 330

But all of that takes time and money , right now in South of florida winter is race season . And I dont want to have the car down while I fabricate everything and collect the parts .

As for the whole situation .. I swapped the manifolds with no issues . I havent run the car so I'm not sure of any adverse effects ...

The CHRA was snug on the newer manifold . I clocked it and its ready to get bolted up . I spun it to make sure no where was it grinding .

the manifold themselves seem pretty much Identical short for the huge cracks on the US manifold

I hear ya. Downtime is a killer. A T3 GT35R will spool nearly as fast as twins and easily make your power goals. You could also do Turblown's TDX57.

Our IWG 8374 FD kit makes more power EVERY where compared to the stock or modified twins.
