Turbos coming on and off, whats wrong

My turbos are basically coming on and off. Somtimes my turbos are working fine and boosting good. Then all of a sudden they just like basically turn off, and I get no boost at all. Then if I'm driving without boost, the turbos just come on again. Really weird. Somtimes when I take a drive somwhere and the turbos are not boosting and then shut the car off, then starting it up again to go home it comes on again right after start up. Somtime it will stay on all the way home, somtimes it just shut off. It feels like and on/off switch turbo. Could this be somthing call a limp mode? This is killing me. Any advice?

Check the turbo control, prespool control and wastegate actuator arms. The c-clips sometimes pop off and you'll get very erratic boost patterns.

Doesn't sound like a boost leak, or necessarily failing turbos unless you're also noticing a lot of smoke and loss of power... Like trex recommended, check all of your solenoids and actuators, make sure that they're functioning properly... I bet your culprit is something pretty small, but probably a pain in the *** to find..

Hey, I also want to add that when my turbos are not coming on, I can sort of make them come on by flooring it to redline, while doing this I can hear the turbos start to spine really loud at about 5000 rpms to redline but no boost. Once I shift to next gear boost starts to build and the turbos will stay on for the rest of the drive. The thing is that when I start to hear the turbos spinning really loud at 5000 rpms the boost gauge show the needle at 2 psi and then it drops to a vaccum of -1. What the hell is this? If I floor it to about 5000 rpms and then let off and floor it again to redline the boost starts to build. What could this be? Where is the c-clip located and what does it look like? Any suggestions

The #1 cause of no primary boost is a boost leak. Check EVERY pipe from the y-pipe to the throttle body. Check the vacuum and pressure storage. Do the factory service test. It's really not that bad.

It could be one of your turbo control solinoids. It could be one of three. When they heat up they lose contact and therefore you have no boost. You can read up on this some more in Lightning in the World of Thunder. Excellent web site. Sorry no link.

Are you talking about the 1st-2nd gear transition? Is what you are discribing happening in all gears?
FYI: when shifting from 1st to second, if the rpm at shift point (when entering into 2nd) is higher than 3K the first turbo will not kick in untill you get pass 4.6-4.8K (when both turbos will come on line). If the 1st to 2nd shift point is below 3K, 2nd gear will have normal boost pattern. If this is what's happening, then it's normal.
