Turbo Whine

Hello guys ive noticed since I have had put my motor in that whenever i have the car rev'd over 4k rpm the turbos make a pretty loud whine sound... ive read that the secondary turbo kicks in at about 4k.. So im assuming that's the problem, but ive seen some videos and it doesn't sound this bad, that or im not seeing them. I still get boost, from 10psi dropped to about 7-8 once second turbo goes. Before i go around and start trouble shooting i want to make sure this is a problem and if anyone knows off the top of their head what it could be, I have never owned a rotary turbo'd car before so idk how it suppose to actually sound. Ill list the video below. Thanks guys

set up is sequential/stock ecu/stock everything but exhaust.

so you just put in a new motor?

Had you driven the car with the old motor?
What was wrong with the old motor?

Did you replace or modify the turbos?
Was there any noise previously?
Did you check for turbo play? Is there any oil in the intake tract or oil out of the exhaust under boost?

What was the previous boost pattern?

It's hard to tell from the clip. I'd check your large couplers, it sounds like air rushing out of a split. It also could be your secondary turbo wheel hitting the housing. Hard to tell from A video and with 0 detail from you.

Its probably a very small boost leak, carefully and thoroughly check all the stock rubber 2.75" hoses and couplers for hard to find splits. The most common places are the Y-pipe coupler and intercooler accordion looking feed piping.

Hey snook, when i bought the car i bought it as a shell so there was no motor, so i had no clue what i was looking for turbo sound in a rotary vehicle. The noise has always been there since i started to drive the car, I just hardly ever gun it so this never really came to mind until i noticed it always happened when i hit the rpms the secondary turbo hits.

I bought the motor i have now off a forum member a few years back that only had about 30k miles on it. It did not include the turbos so i had used turbos off a jdm motor that was said to have low miles on it. I'll check tomorrow for turbo play, and i have only noticed oil in the Y pipe but very little of it.

Boost pattern has always been about the same 10 psi, then drop to about 8/9 when i rpms reach 4.5k. I just never lost boost when the secondary turbo hits so i didnt think the turbo was going out at the time.

Thanks Fearless, im going to most likely replace most of the hoses. seeing how i left most of the stock hoses that came with the turbo, since at the time they didnt look damaged.

Wow found out what was making the noise. One nut on the Y pipe attached to the secondary turbo wasn't tightened down all the way... I feel pretty retarded now. Glad it was something small tho, Thanks for all the replies guys!
